College Station to vote on letter of intent for 80-acre baseball complex

College Station City Council is expected to vote at its Feb. 26 meeting on a letter of intent that will guide the city's negotiations on the baseball complex it plans to build in the Midtown area.

What readers need to know: The letter is a step toward negotiations with The Station Baseball LLC, which is a development firm pitching the project. That project specifically will include creating an 80-acre baseball complex with nine fields, officials told Community Impact earlier in February.

Other items of note: On the city’s consent agenda is a number of contracts, including:

  • Around $521,000 for improvements at the Lincoln Center, including for a shade shelter and the installation of a restroom building
  • $6 million contract with Brazos Paving for pavement repairs and reconstruction
  • Around $4.6 million for the purchase of asphalt and concrete base

Several projects in the Bryan-College Station area have been filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation since February.

Bryan Self Storage
This project will be a new construction and consist of drive-up self-storage options for customers. The project will include one climate-controlled building that will total nearly 61,000 square feet.

  • Address: 2905 Town Square Ave., Bryan
  • Cost: $4.9 million
  • Timeline: Construction is slated to start in March and take a year.

Project Powerhouse
This project will consist of building out a pre-engineered metal building totaling nearly 10,000 square feet.
  • Address: 834 Rellis Parkway, Bryan
  • Cost: $3 million
  • Timeline: Work was slated to begin in January and wrap up in August.

H-E-B College Station remodel
The H-E-B off Texas Avenue is slated to be renovated. Details of what the renovation would entail were not listed in the filings. The center is nearly 91,000 square feet.
  • Address: 1900 Texas Ave. S., College Station
  • Cost: $6.7 million
  • Timeline: Work is slated to start in July and last until May 2027.

 
On The Transportation Beat
Check out 3 road closures from Feb. 24-26 in College Station

Overnight road work along Hwy. 6 as part of the Big 6 road project will lead to several closures from Feb. 24-26.

Daytime travel will not be affected, according to a Feb. 20 news release from the Texas Department of Transportation.

What you need to know: The following lanes will be closed each day from 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.:
  • Feb. 24: Westbound single-lane closure at the Harvey Road overpass
  • Feb. 24-26: Northbound lanes closed from Rock Prairie Road to Southwest Parkway. All traffic will exit northbound on Rock Prairie Road’s exit ramp and re-enter through the main lanes south of Harvey Road. Entrance ramps south of Barron Road, Harvey Mitchell Parkway and Southwest Parkway will be closed.
  • Feb. 25-26: Westbound single-lane closure at the Harvey Road frontage road overpass
