Dance gym, culinary lab included in Manvel High School expansion plans

Proposed additions to the design for Manvel High School, presented by PBK Architects to the Alvin ISD board of trustees on Oct. 20, include a new dance gym, culinary lab and expanded career and technical education space. The design features separate drop-off routes for parents and buses, a pedestrian path for students from certain subdivisions and added parking lots to accommodate the CTE expansion.

Remember this?: The district's 2024 voter-approved bond program includes $225 million for new campus construction and $144 million for aging facilities and campus capacity improvements, which include projects at Alvin High School and Manvel High School.

The details: Key points from the discussion included:

  • Houston city council member Twila Carter emphasized mitigating flood risk before disasters occur.
