Hays County to revamp development regulations with public input

Hays County’s development regulations, originally adopted around 2010, are going to get a comprehensive rewrite, using community feedback as the impetus for the upcoming changes.

The details: Marcus Pacheco, Hays County development services director, said the development regulations have been amended multiple times in the past 15 years, and, in the latest effort to do so, staff realized the scope of necessary changes was too extensive for minor amendments.

Public input: The county held several meetings to gather resident input on the types of regulations that would be beneficial. Pacheco said key concerns included:

  • Water availability
  • Water quality
  • Stricter flood plain management
  • Transportation needs
  • Financially savvy development
  • City and county collaboration

What’s next: Ongoing public engagement and updates will be shared on the county’s website, which is also where residents can submit feedback at this time.
