Tomball City Council gave first approval Sept. 21 to a rezoning request for a second phase of Everwood Reserve, a planned senior living community on Medical Complex Drive. Council also advanced a separate rezoning request along FM 2920.

The breakdown: The council unanimously approved, on first reading, a request to rezone 5.21 acres near South Cherry Street and Medical Complex Drive from agricultural to multifamily residential.

The proposal would add 40 assisted living accommodations across the street from Everwood Reserve’s planned 32-bed memory care facility.

Council gave first approval to the original Everwood Reserve site in March 2025. At the time, Co-founder Andrea Ameen described plans for two residential-style buildings with room for 16 memory care residents each.

What’s next: Both Sept. 21 rezoning ordinances need a second reading before they are final.

According to a Sept. 23 Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, the H-E-B location in Tomball is set to undergo interior renovations to modernize.

The breakdown: The project documents outline the following details for the proposed construction:

• The proposed cost of the renovations is $20 million.

• Construction is scheduled to begin March 1, and the completion date for the project is April 28, 2028.

• The construction will focus on remodeling and expanding the current grocery store at 28520 Hwy. 249 to account for the growing Tomball population.

The Texas Department of Transportation is proposing a $209 million Grand Parkway widening project through the Spring area in Harris and Montgomery counties. Funded by toll revenue, the project would widen a 6.73-mile section of the roadway to maintain stable traffic flow and vehicle speed. Public feedback on the proposal is being collected through Oct. 9.

The plan: The project is needed because State Highway 99 is unable to maintain a minimum traffic flow level of C. No additional right-of-way is needed for the project, which proposes:

• Three 12-foot-wide main lanes in each direction

• 10-foot-wide paved shoulders replacing the grassy median

• Concrete traffic barriers

• Direct connectors between I-45 and the Grand Parkway

What to expect: The project timeline includes:

• 2025: Data collected and needs evaluated

• 2026: Environmental studies begin

• Mid-2026: Public meetings held

• Early 2027: Environmental decisions and detailed design

• Late 2027: Construction to begin

The project will take five years to complete.
