Q&A: HAR CEO, President René Galvan discusses the organization, Houston’s real estate market

René Galvan was appointed the new CEO and president of the Houston Association of Realtors in February, as previously reported. Galvan succeeded Bob Hale, who retired Jan. 31. In an interview with Community Impact, Galvan discussed his background, what HAR does and the real estate market in the Greater Houston area.

PREVIEW: Fort Bend ISD to hold budget workshop, discuss long-range boundary planning

Before its regularly scheduled May 11 meeting, Fort Bend ISD's board of trustees will hold a 2026-27 budget workshop in preparation for its approval in June.

What’s happening: The most recent update May 4 showed the district was set to face a $35.9 million shortfall, up from the initial projection of $26.2 million last summer, Community Impact reported.

Also on the agenda: District officials will also share an update on the long-range boundary planning process for secondary schools after making the decision to close seven primary schools in March.

Other agenda items to watch include:

  • FBISD’s annual demographics report
  • Submission of an application for a grant to implement an officer wellness and readiness program
  • A $2.7 million agreement with STS Brand to operate the online district spirit store
  • A $4.2 million partnership with Edmentum to serve as the district’s virtual high school provider

Stay tuned: The board will meet at 5 p.m. May 11 for the budget workshop, followed by the regular meeting at 6 p.m. at the Fort Bend ISD administration building.

7 Brew sets opening date for new drive-thru location in Missouri City

7 Brew, a national coffee chain with more than 20,000 drink combinations, is slated to open a new drive-thru stand May 18 in the Missouri City area, officials announced in a May 6 news release.

The details: The new location will be operated by Texas Coffee Partners, a franchise led by CEO and President Eric Wollenhaupt that has previously opened multiple locations in Texas, per the release.

The stand—which serves lattes, cold brews, energy drinks, teas and lemonades—will be open Sunday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 a.m.-11 p.m.

Something to note: In the weeks leading up to the opening, community organizations such as nonprofits, schools, fire departments and hospitals can sign up for free deliveries.

Q&A: Jeffrey L. Boney and Sara Khan to face off in May Democratic runoff for Fort Bend County treasurer

Democratic voters will choose their nominee for the Fort Bend County treasurer in a May 26 runoff election between Jeffrey L. Boney and Sara Khan.

The big picture: The Democratic race for Fort Bend County treasurer is one of several county contests that advanced to May runoffs after no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the March 3 primary election.

Boney and Khan were the two highest-performing candidates in the five-way primary race, with Boney securing 35.34% of the vote to Khan's 31.79%.

Stay tuned: The winner of the May 26 runoff will face the Republican nominee for Fort Bend County treasurer, incumbent Bill Rickert, in the November midterm election.
