Humble ISD officials project large CCMR gains for the 2025-26 school year

Humble ISD trustees received an update on the new systems and support programs the district put into place to raise college, career and military readiness scores in future Texas Education Agency accountability ratings.

The details: According to the projections, HISD is expecting to see its overall CCMR score rise from 62% for the 2024-25 school year to between 78%-81% for the 2025-26 school year.

Some context: According to district data, HISD’s score for total CCMR criteria came out to 62% for the 2024-25 school year—20 percentage points behind the state average of 82%.

A closer look: Tong Utakrit, HISD director of advanced learning and services, said a lot of the projected gains are coming through efforts to increase college readiness initiatives for high school students.

Also of note: Larry Wilson, HISD director of career and technical education, said the district has also made some headway in the industry-based certificate portion of its CCMR score.

Coach B’s Summer Science Caravan

Owner Dale Bransom will host two camp sessions each week throughout the summer with field trips and activities centered around science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Locations include Atascocita, Dallas, Humble, Katy, Kingwood and New Caney.

Toro District estimated to have $34B economic impact in Cypress region

An 83-acre sports and entertainment hub called the Toro District is coming to the Bridgeland community by 2029 as part of a public-private partnership between the Houston Texans, Howard Hughes Communities and Harris County.
The big picture: The Texans will construct a 175,000-square-foot headquarters with training facilities, administrative space and a fieldhouse, officials announced Feb. 25. The project is estimated to have a long-term economic impact of about $34 billion, officials said, and will include:

  • 1 million square feet of office space
  • 300,000 square feet of retail and restaurants
  • 250,000 square feet health care space
  • 175,000-square-foot fieldhouse and performance center
  • 5,000 parking spaces
  • 1,300 units of multifamily housing
  • 4 new parks with walk and bike trails
  • 3 outdoor NFL training fields
  • 2 hotels totaling 300 rooms

Quote of note:
 “We’ve been looking for the center of Cypress for the last 20 years,” Harris county Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey said. “Well, we’re about to find it.”

The Best Stop Cajun Market brings a taste of Louisiana to Katy

The Best Stop Cajun Market in Katy operates both as a marketplace and a deli, where customers can shop through products such as signature spices and products the brand has developed and sells.

Customers can also pick up fresh food to take out or dine in, with breakfast, lunch and dinner options available.

The Cajun market was originally established in Scott, Louisiana, nearly 40 years ago, and has since established five other locations, with the Katy location opening in December 2023.
