Picky Fig Farm Stand now open

The Picky Fig Farm Stand brings a self-serve, honor-system stop for homemade goods and farm-fresh staples, owner Susanna Townend said.

The details: Townend said her family moved from Houston to the country during the COVID-19 pandemic in search of a slower pace and a deeper connection to the land. What started with gardening, beekeeping and raising chickens grew into a family project—and eventually, a farm stand.

Townend said placing the stand on the grounds of Convenience RV at the Fish Pond—next door to the Fish Pond Restaurant—felt like a natural extension of the family’s investment in the area as the restaurant is being revamped and expanded.

The stand offers small-batch habanero jam, pickled dill carrots, baked goods, free-range eggs, herbs and seasonal flowers, Townend said.

Montgomery council honors late Council Member Tom Czulewicz with proclamation

Montgomery City Council honored the life and public service of Council Member Thomas “Tom” Czulewicz, who died Dec. 30, through a formal proclamation presented during the Jan. 13 meeting.

The impact: Council’s proclamation outlined Czulewicz’s path into local government, noting he previously served on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission—from Oct. 24, 2023, until his resignation May 13—before joining City Council in Place 3 on May 13, where he served until his death.

The proclamation also highlighted Czulewicz’s military career, describing a 34-year tenure in the U.S. Navy’s submarine service and noting he retired in 1995 with the rank of commander.
