Carroll ISD trustees to consider removing courses, adding new career training

Carroll ISD trustees will consider cutting low-enrollment courses, and adding five new career electives, as part of the 2026-27 Academic Planning Guide, following an Oct. 20 board meeting.

CISD will not need to hire any additional staff for the new classes, and the district already has funding available, CISD Executive Director for Curriculum Gina Peddy said.

Zooming in: The district plans to remove five courses from the school’s curriculum, as well as combine several others, Peddy said. CISD also plans to add five career and technical education programs based on employment data from the Texas Workforce Commission and Comptroller’s Office, according to district documents.

The removed courses include:

  • Independent study for gifted and talented
  • Algebra 3
  • Advanced precalculus
  • Animation 1 and 2

Grapevine City Council approves 2 conditional use permits for new restaurants

Two restaurants that have had "Coming soon" signs posted since early summer have received the green light to continue the opening process.

The Grapevine City Council and Grapevine Planning & Zoning Commission approved two conditional use permits for Butter My Brunch and Hokkaido Sushi at the joint meeting held Oct. 21.

Zooming in: Butter My Brunch will open at the Grapevine Station North development on Northwest Highway.

Triston Ida, from Chabolet Development, requested for the sale of alcoholic beverages and seating for 16 on the patio for the property at 919 E. Northwest Highway, Ste. 600. 

In other news: Hokkaido Sushi will move into a space that was once Buffalo Wild Wings, at 1525 William D. Tate.

According to the presentation, owner Michael Zou has more than 20 years of sushi cuisine experience and operates seven restaurants in Canada.

Roanoke officials approve retail, medical development off US 377

A site plan for a new commercial development with medical, retail and restaurant uses was unanimously approved by Roanoke City Council at the Oct. 14 meeting. 

The details: The development will be generally located on US 377 between Bobcat Boulevard and Marshall Creek Road and include 1.28 acres, per city documents. The site plan shows that 4,000 square feet will be used for retail, 3,200 square feet will be dedicated to medical uses and 3,012 square feet will be restaurant space. 

The entire site has 57 parking spaces, which meets the city’s requirements, according to city documents. City officials will meet with the developer to discuss when construction will start and how long it will take, Development Services Administrator JR Hames said. 

In other news: Roanoke officials have issued a nearly $25 million certificate of obligations bond for the construction of the parking garage on US 377 and Main Street, and new utility lines, according to city documents.
