Roman Forest to host ribbon-cutting ceremony for new playground equipment

The city of Roman Forest is hosting a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate several new pieces of playground equipment at Roman Forest City Park.

The details: City Administrator Scott Castleberry said the event will be held at 5:30 p.m. March 16 at the park, which is located at 2430 Roman Forest Blvd., Roman Forest.

Castleberry said the city is expanding its current playground with the addition of:

  • Six slides
  • A fireman pole
  • A climbing area
  • Overhead bars

Quote of note: 
“In addition to the playground apparatuses, we have added a cozy pod spinner and two whirl-and-twirls that are perfect for young children,” Castleberry said.

Castleberry noted the park's swing area will also be updated with new borders and wood chips.

New Caney ISD seeking new teachers, employees at annual career fair

The public is invited to learn about job opportunities at New Caney ISD at the district’s annual Teacher/Professional Career Fair on March 21.

The big picture: NCISD principals and administrators will be hiring teachers and other employees for the 2026-27 school year at the upcoming career fair. NCISD’s first day of school is Aug. 6.

Examples of jobs the district is looking to hire for include:

  • Teachers and teacher leaders
  • School counselors
  • Diagnosticians
  • Special education specialists

How it works: Career fair attendees may receive an interview at the event. Prospective employees are asked to dress professionally and bring multiple printed copies of their resume.

Those interested in attending the job fair are encouraged to complete a job application before attending the event.

Toro District estimated to have $34B economic impact in Cypress region

An 83-acre sports and entertainment hub called the Toro District is coming to the Bridgeland community by 2029 as part of a public-private partnership between the Houston Texans, Howard Hughes Communities and Harris County.
The big picture: The Texans will construct a 175,000-square-foot headquarters with training facilities, administrative space and a fieldhouse, officials announced Feb. 25. The project is estimated to have a long-term economic impact of about $34 billion, officials said, and will include:

  • 1 million square feet of office space
  • 300,000 square feet of retail and restaurants
  • 250,000 square feet health care space
  • 175,000-square-foot fieldhouse and performance center
  • 5,000 parking spaces
  • 1,300 units of multifamily housing
  • 4 new parks with walk and bike trails
  • 3 outdoor NFL training fields
  • 2 hotels totaling 300 rooms
Quote of note: “We’ve been looking for the center of Cypress for the last 20 years,” Harris county Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey said. “Well, we’re about to find it.”

The Best Stop Cajun Market brings a taste of Louisiana to Katy

The Best Stop Cajun Market in Katy operates both as a marketplace and a deli, where customers can shop through products such as signature spices and products the brand has developed and sells.

Customers can also pick up fresh food to take out or dine in, with breakfast, lunch and dinner options available.

The Cajun market was originally established in Scott, Louisiana, nearly 40 years ago, and has since established five other locations, with the Katy location opening in December 2023.
