Tomball City Council hears update on Capital Improvement Plan projects

At its Nov. 17 Tomball City Council meeting, Project Manager Meagan Mageo delivered the latest quarterly Capital Improvement Plan update for projects active through Sept. 30, outlining progress on water, wastewater, roadway and streetscape improvements across the city.

Major takeaways: Updated bond-funded projects include:
  • FM 2920 Lift Station improvements
  • South Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion
  • Oak and Clayton Streets water line replacement
  • FM 2920 reconstruction
  • Downtown tree planting program

New toy store now open in Magnolia

ToyBox Treasures, a new toy store, is open in Magnolia, co-owner Chelsea Hathorn confirmed. 

The gist: The store offers a selection of unique toys from infancy to tween. They also have educational/Montessori type toys, wooden toys and wooden doll houses, puzzles, games, and more.

Magnolia City Council names interim city engineer

During its Nov. 12 meeting, Magnolia City Council named Bleyl Engineering as the interim city engineer.

How we got here: Previous city engineer Tim Robertson left the city Oct. 31, City Administrator Chris Whittaker said in an email to Community Impact. Whittaker said the city's long-term plan is to hire a city engineer by January.

What else: Bleyl Engineering will oversee the water moratorium until a new city engineer is hired, he said. Whittaker also said the city has previously used engineering firms in this capacity before.

Check out these new restaurants and bars opening across the Houston area.

On The Kirb opened in The Woodlands in November.

The restaurant and bar features a menu made with local produce and organic meats, per the website. Menu items include salads, burgers, wraps, tacos and pizza.

In addition, On the Kirb offers a variety of specialty cocktails, including its hibiscus margaritas and the Barrel-Aged Old Fashioned.

Sakura Bistro opened in Cypress in November, according to store management.

The Japanese-Asian fusion restaurant specializes in providing a variety of fresh sushi and Asian dishes, including lo mein, fried rice and udon noodles. The restaurant also offers a variety of special sushi rolls.
