Lewisville ISD officials expect nearly $18M less in net funding for FY 2026-27

Lewisville ISD officials expect a roughly $18 million funding loss for FY 2026-27 according to a report from district staff at a Feb. 2 trustee work session.

The details: Based on preliminary funding projections from LISD Budget Director Claudia Orta, the district will lose about $7.7 million in state funding in the 2026-27 fiscal year due to a nearly 1,400-student decline in enrollment. Enrollment for the 2025-26 school year is 46,402, and officials expect that to drop to 45,038 for the 2026-27 school year, according to Orta’s report.

The state-funded per-student allotment is based on average daily attendance, and officials expect average daily attendance to drop from 43,715 in the 2025-26 fiscal year down to 41,885 for FY 2026-27, causing the $7.7 million funding loss.

Looking ahead: Chief Financial Officer Scott Wrehe said staff will work to identify areas for savings to combat the funding loss, and meet with the Program and Budget Review Committee to examine fine arts, athletics and counseling for FY 2026-27.

Denton-based Cumberland Youth & Family Services expands services to new satellite office

Cumberland Youth & Family Services, a Denton-based nonprofit focused on mental health care, has opened a satellite facility in Lewisville to offer services to a wider range of people, according to a news release.

The gist: Officials with Cumberland worked with the city of Lewisville to expand counseling services into the city, filling the need for those in the area who cannot afford or travel for standard mental health care with licensed counselors.

Currently, the Lewisville satellite office has no waitlist and offers a wide range of services, including individual, family and youth counseling. Cumberland also offers $5 sessions for qualified uninsured and underinsured clients, according to the release.

Cumberland president and CEO Courtney Banatoski said that the United Way Denton County stated that Denton County has one mental health provider for every 600 residents, when that number should be closer to one for every 250 residents.

The backstory: Cumberland Youth & Family Services was founded in Denton in 1904.
