Learn more about 13 colleges, universities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area

1. Collin College: Beginning in the fall 2025 semester, Collin College students gained access to online education from schools across the state through a partnership with the Texas Statewide Course Sharing Exchange Program. The program allows students to sign up for online courses from schools statewide while also enrolled in Collin College courses, with the goal to increase availability of courses while also supporting students completing their education, a college news release states.

2. Texas Christian University: Six new residence halls are under construction. In 2027, the university plans to open a 550-bed hall in Worth Hills and, on the east side of campus, three first-year halls totaling 1,350 beds, a 450-bed hall for sophomores, and a 120-bed townhome and apartment community for upperclassmen.

Flower Mound officials approve $583K arts center pre-design services contract

Progress on a proposed arts center within Flower Mound’s River Walk development is being made with the selection of the architecture team for the project.

Flower Mound Town Council unanimously approved a pre-design services contract with architects Hoefer Welker and Bora Architects, during the Oct. 6 meeting. The arts center will be located on roughly 3.76 acres in the River Walk mixed-use development.

The pre-design contract will cost Flower Mound $583,500, according to town documents, and will include:

  • Updating the existing market assessment completed in 2020
  • Updating the existing business plan completed in 2021
  • Identifying and researching project funding opportunities
  • Benchmark tours
  • Stakeholder and community input sessions
  • Site master planning
  • Programming

In their words: “This is something I’ve been looking forward to for many, many years and one of the many reasons why I’m involved with the town,” Mayor Cheryl Moore said. “This is going to bring a lot of vibrancy to that area.”

Lewisville ISD to implement turnaround plan at Mill Street Elementary, reassign students

Lewisville ISD officials have announced a plan to reassign students at Mill Street Elementary to other campuses starting in the 2026-27 school year.

The reassignment comes as the school has received an unacceptable rating, either a D or F, from the Texas Education Agency for a third consecutive school year. District officials said they will develop and implement a turnaround plan for the campus during the Oct. 6 board meeting.

The details: A draft turnaround plan is expected to be shared with the community Oct. 10 before final approval is expected Nov. 10, according to a news release. A public hearing on the item is scheduled for the Nov. 3 board meeting as well, officials said.

What else: The district plans to have an online feedback form for community members and the draft turnaround plans will be available on LISD’s website.

Ace Handyman Services in Highland Village held its grand opening in late September, a company representative said.

The details: The business offers flooring repair, furniture assembly, painting, bathroom remodeling, countertop installation and other home improvement services, according to its website.

Renovations nearing completion at Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine

The Cowboys Golf Club plans to reopen in late October after a multimillion-dollar renovation. According to the website, it is the first and only NFL-themed golf club in the world and is the only all-inclusive world-class golf course in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

What's happening? The renovations include a new driving range with Toptracer that also includes 50 yards of game-used turf from AT&T Stadium and a goal post, new greens, bunkers, tees, cart path, landscaping and an 18-hole putting course, according to the website. Renovations on the project started in June, according to a spokesperson for the golf course.

What else? According to previous Community Impact reporting, the Texas Department of Transportation and the city of Grapevine started a road renovation project on Fairway Drive that is supposed to conclude in December. 

The background: Arcis Golf owns 18 locations in Texas and nine in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to its website. The Cowboys Golf Club opened in 2001.
