Here are three events happening in Plano during the Memorial Day weekend in late May.

1. Boots and BBQ
Lexus Box Garden at Legacy Hall is hosting its seventh annual Boots and BBQ fest during Memorial Day weekend. The event will have country music, craft beer and local vendors on Sunday.

2. The Texas Pool
Memorial Day is also the opening day for Plano’s Texas-shaped pool. The Texas Pool will have a National Moment of Remembrance ceremony at 3 p.m. The pool also offers local performers, a snack bar and picnic areas.

Cowboy Chicken now offers rotisserie and tenders at new Plano location

The wood fire rotisserie place Cowboy Chicken opened a new location along Preston Road in early May.

The details: Cowboy Chicken has tex-mex tacos, rotisserie chicken plates, salads and bowls and sandwiches on its menu.

Customers can choose a variety of sides from green beans and mashed potatoes to ranchero beans and Mexican street corn.

Uncle Julio's closes Frisco location

Uncle Julio's closed its Frisco location on May 13. 

What you need to know: The restaurant's voicemail said the location closed because of "lease related circumstances."

The Frisco location first opened in April 2024. It served fish tacos, vegetable fajitas, carne asada, honey chipotle salmon, quesadillas and more.

1. Marilee Road improvements

Project: The project consists of reclamation of the existing asphalt roadway on Marilee Road from Preston Road to Dallas Parkway in Celina. This project will be shared with the city of Gunter, Grayson County, Collin County, city of Celina and the adjacent subdivision developers.
Update: The project is in the design phase and waiting on funding to determine a timeline for bidding.

  • Timeline: estimated completion in April 2027
  • Cost: $8.7 million
  • Funding sources: city of Gunter, Grayson County, Collin County, city of Celina and the adjacent subdivision developers

Industrial Boulevard utility improvements
Project: The planned reconstruction of existing water and sanitary sewer lines will take place along Industrial Boulevard between SH 5 and Airport Drive in McKinney.
Update: Design work is 90% complete, and the project is expected to go to bid later this year.
  • Timeline: late 2026-late 2027
  • Cost: $9.2 million
  • Funding source: city of McKinney
