College Station City Council announced the termination of a $250,000 contract and partnership with aerospace and defense technology startup Plug and Play Aug. 27 due to "costs."

About Plug and Play: The original partnership was cited to support growth and entrepreneurship guided by research and innovation. Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp said he saw Plug and Play as a way to attract companies and collaborate to innovate.

College Station Mayor John Nichols originally praised the partnership between the city and the organization when it began last summer. He said he was excited about the "advancement of the community."

What's new: According to the city’s blog, College Station terminated the agreement "following an evaluation of the program’s benefits relative to its costs."

The mayor and one council member said the contract was a one-time expense and was not in the recurring budget, enabling the agreement to be terminated.

Oliver’s Boutique, a shop specializing in southern and Texas clothing and accessories, is set to open at College Station’s Post Oak Mall soon.

What Oliver's offers: Oliver’s will sell a variety of trendy options for those looking for “southern charm and Texas style” clothing, including hats, sweaters, shirts and shorts.

According to its Instagram, the boutique also sells necklaces, buttons and bracelets.

Stay tuned: As previously reported by Community Impact, the department store had been occupied by Vans for more than 15 years before closing in July.

Oliver’s will now occupy the same space right across from Bath and Body Works.

Bryan-College Station will have closures of the north and southbound mainlanes on Briarcrest, along with exit closures on Hwy. 6 throughout the week.

What you need to know: 

• Sep. 1: Full closure of the southbound mainlanes from Briarcrest Drive to Harvey Road, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.

• Sep. 2: Full closure of the southbound mainlanes from Briarcrest Drive to Harvey Mitchell Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m

• Sep. 3: Single lane closure of the northbound and southbound mainlanes from Southwest Parkway to Briarcrest Drive, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.

What’s next: TxDOT will be maintaining two open main lanes in each direction during construction. A majority of the work will be on the main lanes, along with the construction of temporary pavement and retaining walls.
