Boerne ISD pays off $45.6 million in bond debt in an effort to reduce interest payments

In early February, Boerne ISD crossed a milestone: paying off $45.6 million on the 2022 bond, years ahead of schedule, district staff said. The $165.64 million bond authorized by voters funded the construction of Viola Wilson Elementary School, additions to both district high schools, library renovations at four elementary schools, the construction of an Aquatic Learning Center and other district improvements. Staff said 32 total projects have been completed over the past three years.

Marking a milestone: According to a Feb. 17 news release, the district has been able to structure repayments and refinancings to save significant taxpayer dollars on all bonds, not just the 2022 bond projects.

Since the 2016 bond election, the district has saved more than $85 million in interest, paying back 30-year loans at a pace of an average 25-year loan or 20-year loan in some instances, staff said.

Locally owned vintage store with over 50 vendors opens in San Antonio

Head down Wurzbach Parkway from North San Antonio to check out this new hotspot for vintage goods and antiques.

In case you missed it: The Staging Post—locally-owned by duo Pamela Faver and Jessalyn Smith—celebrated its grand opening on Feb. 28. It is located at 6150 Wurzbach Road, inside the Rio’s Crystal Mall shopping center near Leon Valley.

Smith said the business is a place for the community to come together and discover local businesses.

“My goal with the Staging Post is to be a community hub for not only vendors to sell their items, but for community members to gather, drink coffee and make a difference in the community,” Smith said in the release.

Check this out: The Staging Post has handmade goods from over 50 local and regional vendors, according to the release. Specific items include vintage home decor, clothing, jewelry, antique furniture and collectibles. The antique shop also has market events and sidewalk sales.

4.5M Texans voted in March 3 primary, shattering past turnout records

Over 2.3 million Democrats and nearly 2.2 million Republicans voted in the March 3 election, according to unofficial election results from the secretary of state. Totaling nearly 4.5 million voters, this is “the highest voter turnout for a primary in Texas history,” the secretary of state’s office said.

By the numbers: Nearly one-fourth of Texas’ 18.7 million registered voters participated in the primaries, shattering turnout rates from recent years. Less than one-fifth of registered voters cast ballots in the 2024 presidential and 2022 midterm primaries, state election records show.

Texas’ previous primary turnout record was set in 2008, when 4.2 million voters cast ballots in high-profile presidential primaries.

Zooming in: Election data shows the most people cast votes in the high-profile U.S. Senate races that topped the ticket, with the total numbers of votes steadily decreasing down the ballot in both primaries.

There is “some certainty” that voter enthusiasm will extend to the November midterm election, Republican data analyst Ross Hunt told Community Impact during early voting.
