The release of early voting results for Democratic primary elections was delayed after the Texas Supreme Court struck down a previous court order keeping polls open for an additional two hours.

What you need to know: A court order temporarily allowed Democratic primary polling locations in Dallas County to remain open until 9 p.m., before later being “struck down” by the Texas Supreme Court, according to the Dallas County Elections website.

Early voting results for the county’s Republican primary election were released at 7 p.m., while unofficial totals for the Democratic primary were released at 9 p.m.

According to the Texas Supreme Court order, votes cast by voters who were not in line to vote at 7 p.m. “should be separated.”

With 228 of Texas' 254 counties reporting some election results, three statewide Republican primary races are headed to runoffs, while candidates had decisive leads in other races.

The details: The Republican primary contests for U.S. Senate, attorney general and railroad commissioner appear to be heading to May runoffs, unofficial election returns showed.

Incumbent John Cornyn and state attorney general Ken Paxton will face each other in a runoff to determine who will be the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate after neither candidate cleared the 50% threshold required to avoid an additional round. In the attorney general race, state Sen. Mayes Middleton, R-Galveston, and U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Austin, will face off in an overtime round.

Incumbent Jim Wright and former Tarrant County GOP chair Bo French will compete in a runoff for railroad commissioner. All primary runoffs will take place on May 26, according to the secretary of state.

 Texas Democratic voters cast ballots for several of the state’s highest offices in the March 3 primary.

The overview: At the top of the ticket, State Rep. James Talarico, D-Austin, is leading the Democratic primary race to be Texas’ next U.S. senator, unofficial results show.

Talarico’s early lead did not include results from Williamson County, where Talarico is from, and Crockett’s home base of Dallas County. Voting hours were extended at polling locations in those counties after they switched from countywide to precinct-based voting on March 3, causing some voters to be turned away from the polls.
