Plano ISD staff presents revised 2027-28 academic calendar draft

Plano ISD is set to adopt its 2027-28 academic calendar in March or April.

The district board of trustees were presented the calendar’s final draft during its March 10 meeting.

What you need to know: On the 2027-28 draft calendar, the first day of school for students would be Aug. 11, 2027 with the last day set for May 24, 2028.

Fall break is set for Oct. 11-15, Thanksgiving break is set for Nov. 22-26 and Winter break would range from Dec. 20, 2027-Jan. 4, 2028. Students would also have a spring break from March 13-17 and additional days off on March 20, April 14 and April 17.

Thrift City reopens in Richardson after store remodel

Thrift City reopened its Richardson location on March 14 following a five-day closure for a store renovation, a company representative confirmed in an email.

The details: Renovations included replacing the store’s flooring and fixtures as well as organizing a new layout. Thrift City sells discounted men’s, women’s and kids’ clothes as well as accessories, toys and household items.

Yarbrough to be Republican nominee for US House District 32 after Binkley withdraws

Ryan Binkley has withdrawn from the Republican primary runoff for US House District 32, leaving Jace Yarbrough as the party’s candidate for the seat in the November election.

Yarbrough will face Democratic nominee and current Richardson council member Dan Barrios in November.

What you need to know: Yarbrough received 33,812, or 48.96% of votes in the March 3 Republican primary election, narrowly missing the 50% mark needed to avoid a runoff election, which would have been on the March 26 ballot.

Binkley finished second among nine primary candidates, receiving 15,000 votes. He announced his withdrawal from the runoff in a March 17 statement, in which he also congratulated Yarbrough on his victory and a “disciplined campaign.”
