Ralph Rodriguez wins Schertz Mayoral race, unofficial voting results show

There's a new mayor in town.

A closer look: According to unofficial voting results from Comal, Guadalupe and Bexar counties, Ralph Rodriguez garnered 50.95% of votes, or 2,839 votes. Gutierrez received 49.05% of votes, or 2,733 votes.

Gutierrez was reelected for a second term in 2023 after winning a run-off election against Cedric B. Edwards Sr., according to previous reporting by Community Impact. Gutierrez had served as the Schertz mayor since 2019.

Kara Latimer elected as new Cibolo mayor, unofficial voting results show

Kara Latimer will be Cibolo's new mayor, according to unofficial voting results.

The overview: With all precincts reporting, Latimer has received 2,588 votes, or 58.74% of votes. Latimer's opponent, Terry Hinze, received 1,818 votes, or 41.26% of votes. 

The winning candidate will replace Mark Allen, who was elected in November 2022 after serving as the District 5 City Council member, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

SCUCISD tax rate proposition fails, according to unofficial totals

By a slim margin, the tax rate election, Proposition A, proposed by Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD has failed to pass.

Latest update: According to unofficial results from Guadalupe and Bexar counties, SCUCISD's Proposition A has 5,896 votes for a tax rate increase, or 49.76%, with 5,954 votes or 50.24% against the increase.

In Bexar County, a total of 248,428 ballots were cast in elections, representing 19.31% of county voters.

A total of 21,804 votes were cast in Guadalupe County, representing 16.37% of registered voters.

A closer look: The district officially called for the tax rate election Aug. 18. If successful, the district’s tax rate will increase $0.06 per $100 valuation to $1.1969 per $100.

According to the district, the proposition would bring in approximately $16.2 million to be used on student programs, safety, staff raises and device replacement.

Judson ISD tax rate proposition fails to pass, unofficial results show

A Judson ISD tax rate proposition has failed in Bexar County, according to unofficial voting results.

What you need to know: A total of 5,874 votes, or 39.99%, were cast for JISD's Proposition A, which would have increased the district's property tax rate by $0.045 per $100 valuation to $1.0796 per $100. A total of 8,813 votes, or 60.01%, were against the proposition.

In the county, a total of 248,428 ballots were cast in unofficial totals, representing 19.31% of Bexar voters.

Unofficial results: Patterson and Fishback head to runoff for Cibolo City Council, Place 3

Unofficial election results show a runoff will take place between election night leaders Marissa-Ellen Patterson and Maria Fishback, who garnered 43.96% and 35.42% of votes, respectively.

The details: Because neither candidate accumulated 50% or more of the vote on election night, the two frontrunners will head to a runoff election, slated for Dec. 13, according to the Texas Secretary of State's office.

Guadalupe County saw 21,804 votes cast out of 133,209 registered voters, representing 16.37% voter turnout.

Unofficial results show Watson winning Schertz City Council, Place 2

Incumbent Michelle Watson will keep her seat on Schertz City Council, Place 2.

Watson received 65.38% of votes, defeating John Carbon, who received 34.62% of votes, according to unofficial election results from Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe counties. 

Guadalupe County saw 21,804 ballots cast, marking 16.37% of registered voters. Bexar and Comal Counties saw 19.31% and 18% voter turnout, respectively.

The background: Watson was elected to office in 2023, after winning a runoff election against Tiffany M. Gibson, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Amy Thomas leads in Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, Place 5 race

Amy Thomas will retain her board of trustees seat following unofficial results from Guadalupe and Bexar Counties. Thomas led with 74.51% of the votes, while Aaron Matheny received 25.49% of the votes.

Thomas said she was humbled by the trust and confidence the community has placed in her to continue serving on the board.

Quote of note: "Serving as a trustee is both an honor and a responsibility I hold close to my heart, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to keep advocating for our students, supporting our educators and strengthening the schools that bring us together," Thomas said in a Facebook post. "Together, we'll keep building on the strong foundation that allows every learner to thrive."

Bill Paschal secures SCUCISD Trustee Place 6 seat in unofficial election results

Unofficial voting results show Bill Paschal taking the seat for Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD Place 6 trustee with 60.86% of the vote, defeating Albert Ramirez, who ended Election Night with 39.14%.

Bexar County had a total of 248,428 voters participate in the Nov. 4 election, representing 19.31% of registered voters. And 21,804 of Guadalupe County voters turned out, representing 16.37% of voters.

What you need to know: Ramirez previously ran for SCUCISD's Place 2 position in November 2023, filing under Alberto Ramirez, but lost to Margaret Carlin, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

Ramirez's priorities include supporting improved resources for teachers and transparency between the district and parents. Paschal's priorities include strengthening academics, boosting staff morale and supporting students.

Evans, Wilkerson slated to enter runoff election in Place 7 SCUCISD board of trustees race

After unofficial voting totals in Guadalupe and Bexar counties, Belinda Evans and Ciera Wilkerson are heading to a runoff election for Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD's Place 7 board of trustees position.

The details: Evans, the incumbent in the race, received 4,384 votes, or 46.08% of the vote. Wilkerson, one of two challengers, received 2,821 votes, or 29.65% of the vote. The third candidate, Jeffrey Kerlick, received 2,308 votes or 29.65%.

A total of 21,804 ballots were cast in Guadalupe County elections, representing 16.37% of registered voters. In Bexar County, 248,428 votes were cast, representing 19.31% of voters.

Incumbent Randy Roberts wins Cibolo City Council, Place 2 seat

Incumbent Randy Roberts will continue serving in the Cibolo City Council, Place 2 seat.

With all precincts reporting, Roberts received 585 votes, or 55.71% of votes. His opponent—David Freimarck—received 465 votes, or 44.29% of votes, according to unofficial voting results from Guadalupe County.

Summer-Marie Brown, Shari McDaniel head to runoff election following unofficial Cibolo City Council Place 7 results

Updated 11:30 p.m. Nov. 4

Unofficial results from Guadalupe County show Summer-Marie Brown and Shari McDaniel advancing to a runoff election, receiving 44.37% and 22.86% of the vote, respectively.

Of the 4,073 votes cast, 1,685 went to Brown and 931 went to McDaniel. Robert Mahoney received 687 votes while Cody Hicks received 770.

Due to no candidate receiving the majority of votes required by Section 5.04 of the Cibolo City Charter, council will hold a runoff election. 

Some background: In 2023, Cibolo officials approved the redistricting of City Council seats, shifting seven single-member districts to four single-member districts and three at-large seats. At-large seats serve the entire city rather than a select group of residents.

Place 7 is the final at-large seat to be filled under the new City Council composition. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

Bexar County voters approve both venue sales tax propositions

With all 285 polling locations reporting results, voters approved both Propositions A and B, which clears the way for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo to transform the county’s Eastside properties into its permanent home, and funds 25%, or $311 million, of the new downtown Spurs Arena.

Zooming in: 248,428 out of 1.3 million voters, or 19.31%, cast their ballots for the Nov. 4 election.

137,804, or 55.91%, voted for Proposition A, while 108,671, or 44.09%, voted against it. 128,642 voters, or 52.14%, voted for Proposition B, while 118,068, or 47.86%, voted against.

Proposition A
Authorizing Bexar County to provide for the acquisition and financing of the Freeman Coliseum, Frost Bank Center and other San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo facilities, together known as the Coliseum Complex Venue Project.

Proposition B
Authorize Bexar County to plan, develop and finance a new multipurpose arena designed primarily as the home venue for the San Antonio Spurs basketball team, known as the Arena Venue Project.

Property taxes, bail rules, water funding: All 17 Texas propositions projected to pass

As of press time, all 17 constitutional amendments on the Texas ballot were poised to become law. The state propositions with the most support would either expand property tax exemptions or prohibit new taxes, while voters also favored measures aimed at funding infrastructure and research.

The overview: Some of the state propositions on the ballot included:

  • Proposition 1: new funding to support the Texas State Technical College System
  • Proposition 3: tighter restrictions on when Texas judges can grant bail for felony offenses
  • Proposition 4: $20 billion for water supply projects and infrastructure
  • Proposition 9: a $125,000 property tax exemption for businesses
  • Propositions 11 and 13: expanded property tax exemptions for Texas homeowners
  • Proposition 14: $3 billion to create a state dementia research institute
