Erosion control improvements, renovations set for Shady Brook Trail

Plano city officials are working to address erosion issues along Shady Brook Trail through several projects, including repairing a damaged section of the trail near Midway Road.

What you need to know: At their Oct. 13 meeting, Plano City Council members approved a $180,000 contract for design services needed to renovate a damaged section of Shady Brook Trail. The affected area, located east of Midway Road, has been closed since December 2024 due to “unsafe conditions caused by undermining erosion,” according to city documents.

Some context: Plano city officials have been working to address ongoing city-wide erosion issues since authorizing a study in 2022 that evaluated more than 3,000 locations and ranked them by severity of erosion. Of those evaluated, 42 locations were rated “critical,” which is the highest need for erosion protection, and require repairs costing approximately $10 million.
