141-acre proposed development on FM 407, I-35W could bring member-based grocery store to Argyle

Argyle planning and zoning considered a new 141-acre development with a member-based grocery store, retail, hotels and open space at its Feb. 25 special meeting.

No vote was taken on the item, and discussion will continue at the next planning and zoning meeting.

What’s happening? The development would be located on the northeast corner of I-35W and FM 407 and could generate $4 million in sales tax revenue for the town annually, Town Manager Mike Sims said.

The warehouse grocery store could be a Sam’s Club, Costco or BJ’s, Sims said. There are no square footage limits for the grocery store, but it is limited to the area of land closest to the Argyle ISD schools and FM 407.

Looking ahead: The proposed 141-acre development will be looked at again and voted on by the planning and zoning commission at the March 4 meeting.

Denton ISD teachers to receive $750 pay increase; staff to see 1% midpoint payment

Denton ISD teachers and staff members will receive a pay increase after the DISD community approved of a tax rate increase under Proposition A.

The overview: Teachers will receive a $750 increase, which is more than 1% adjustment, while staff members will receive a 1% increase on the midpoint of their current pay grade, according to a district news release.

Superintendent Susannah O’Bara explained that through a district-wide survey staff members were asked how they wanted district leaders to utilize the additional funds. Staff members “overwhelmingly” supported increasing staff pay and deemed that a top priority, she said.

Quote of note: “Although we can’t do a huge increase right now … this is helping us to get a more level playing field before we bring you a compensation recommendation for the next budget season,” O’Bara said.
