Republican state Rep. Dennis Paul will face Democratic challenger Shannon Dicely to represent District 11 in the Texas Senate in the Nov. 3 election.

Why it matters: District 11 covers parts of southeastern Houston and the wider Galveston Bay area including portions of Harris, Galveston and Brazoria counties. 

What you need to know: Early voting for the Nov. 3 election runs from Oct. 19-30. Election Day is Nov. 3. The final day to register to vote is Oct. 5.

Current representative Randy Weber is facing a challenge from the former mayor of Port Arthur, Thurman “Bill” Bartie, for the Texas 14th Congressional District in the Nov. 3 election.

What you need to know: Rep. Randy Weber has served Texas’ 14th Congressional District since 2013, taking over from former representative Ron Paul after his retirement. Former Port Arthur Mayor Thurman “Bill” Bartie came in second place during the Democratic primary, but received enough votes to advance and won the runoff election.

Community Impact reported that both Weber and Bartie defeated their opponents in March and May, respectively.

Write-in candidates may also appear on the ballot; however, Community Impact does not send questionnaires to write-in candidates.

The owners with Friendswood Scoop Shop, a small-batch ice cream store, opened a second location in League City in August. 

The details: League City Scoop Shop is conjoined to Wayside Coffee along Main Street, which celebrated its grand opening the same day as the ice cream shop.

For the first time in over a decade, there is no incumbent in the Texas attorney general's race as Republican Ken Paxton runs for U.S. Senate.

Democrat Nathan Johnson, a state senator from Dallas; Republican Mayes Middleton, a state senator from Galveston; and Libertarian Tom Oxford, an attorney from Nederland, are running to replace him this November. Community Impact asked the candidates for their perspectives on Texas' open records laws, state litigation and other topics.

How we got here: Johnson and Middleton each won their primary runoff elections in May, Community Impact reported, while Oxford was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.
