Grapevine-Colleyville ISD could see elementary school closures as a part of the Education Master Planning Committee's long-term plans to assist the district with financial stability. The district’s board of trustees discussed some of the strategies that the committee considered at its Sept. 29 meeting, but no action was taken.
What’s happening? The education master planning committee is considering school consolidation due to decreasing enrollment in GCISD, Chief Operations Officer Paula Barbaroux said. The decreased enrollment has resulted in inefficient use of facilities, she said.
Enrollment has declined by 1,500 students since fall 2019, according to district documents. The district receives state funding based on daily attendance, and as a result of the 1,500-student enrollment decline, the district saw a loss of over $10 million in revenue, Barbaroux said.
