GCISD considers several options for elementary school consolidation amid financial strains

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD could see elementary school closures as a part of the Education Master Planning Committee's long-term plans to assist the district with financial stability. The district’s board of trustees discussed some of the strategies that the committee considered at its Sept. 29 meeting, but no action was taken.

What’s happening? The education master planning committee is considering school consolidation due to decreasing enrollment in GCISD, Chief Operations Officer Paula Barbaroux said. The decreased enrollment has resulted in inefficient use of facilities, she said.

Enrollment has declined by 1,500 students since fall 2019, according to district documents. The district receives state funding based on daily attendance, and as a result of the 1,500-student enrollment decline, the district saw a loss of over $10 million in revenue, Barbaroux said.

Stellini Trattoria adds Pasta alla Ruota to menu in Grapevine

Stellini Trattoria has added a new item and experience to the menu.

According to a news release, the Grapevine restaurant is now doing table-side cheese wheel pasta, or Pasta alla Ruota, on Tuesday nights.

Chef Vittorio Di Buglione is a native of Bari, Italy, prepares the pasta dish in an aged and imported cheese block and forms a bowl out of lighting it on fire and mixing pasta with the center of the cheese.

The Tuesday event runs from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to the restaurant’s website.

Zooming in: Stellini Trattoria celebrated its fifth anniversary in Grapevine late last year.

The Italian restaurant makes its own pastas, such as lasagna and lobster macaroni and cheese, according to its menu.

The background: Di Buglione said he started working in restaurants when he was 12 and graduated from culinary school in Puglia, Alberghiero di Polignano a Mare. He moved to Texas in 2021 and joined Stellini Trattoria in September 2023.

New Carroll ISD council to review library challenges

Carroll ISD parents will soon be able to make recommendations to the school board on library challenges, following policy changes approved at a Sept. 22 CISD trustee meeting.

The gist: New regulations from Texas’ 89th legislative session prompted the policy changes, according to district documents. Senate Bill 13, which became law Sept. 1, allows the district to establish a majority-parent local school advisory council to review library material challenges, and make recommendations on removing the challenged material.

CISD Communications Director Jeff Brady said the district will establish the council and trustees will each appoint one council member.
