City of Denton’s utility bill payments system down from cyber incident

Denton residents have been unable to pay online utilities bills through the city’s website due to a cyber incident, city staff confirmed in a news release.

What’s happening? Since Feb. 6, the online portal through the city’s website has been unable to process credit and debit card payments through BridgePay, the city’s card payment vendor.

BridgePay officials said a cyber incident caused the outage, though the outage does not currently involve a card data breach.

It’s unclear when the system will be operational again, and city officials are encouraging residents to visit the city's website for the latest updates.

What’s next? All late fees have been suspended as of Feb. 6 and will continue to be suspended until Feb. 13.

There are still several ways residents can pay their bills. For those who still want to pay online, customers can go to their utility billing account and select Venmo, PayPay or Paypal credit as a payment method.
