McKinney ISD voters will consider a $500 million bond package and a voter-approval tax rate election, or VATRE, at the polls this November.

MISD trustees unanimously approved calling for the bond propositions and VATRE to be placed on the Nov. 3 ballot at an Aug. 10 meeting.

The overview: There are five total propositions including:

• Proposition A: The VATRE would increase the maintenance and operations portion of the district's property tax rate to $0.7464 per $100 valuation. The funds would be used for teacher compensation and student programs, per the release.
• Proposition B: $430.95 million for two new elementary schools in growing areas, renovations to existing facilities, new buses, safety improvements and a shared career and technical education facility in partnership with Collin College.
• Proposition C: $62 million for instructional technology and network equipment
• Proposition D: $4.5 million for renovating the McKinney High School training pool
• Proposition E: $2.5 million for replacing turf and track at existing district stadiums

A new massage business called Uniq Massage is now open in McKinney.

The gist: Uniq Massage offers nine massage therapies including Swedish massages, Thai massages, foot massages and more, according to its website.

1. East Hudgins Street utility work
Project: Work crews will install 1,500 feet of 8-inch water main and 1,500 feet of 8-inch sewer main along the roadway between South Dooley Street and South Main Street in Grapevine. Following completion of the installation, crews will reconstruct Hudgins.
Update: Grapevine City Council approved a contract worth up to $660,000 with Fort Worth-based RUTS Construction during a July 21 meeting.

2. PGA Parkway construction
Project: PGA Parkway in Frisco will be constructed into a six-lane roadway from Preston Road to Coit Road.
Update: The project is under construction and expected to be completed later this year.

• Cost: $31.1 million

• Funding sources: city of Frisco, external funding

Almost 50% of Texas Woman’s University’s spring 2026 class earned an undergraduate degree without student loan debt, TWU officials said.

Two-minute impact: Out of the 888 undergraduates who earned a four-year degree at TWU, 442, or 49.77% had zero student loan debt, said Matt Flores, TWU’s assistant vice president of communications.

A further 115 students graduated with less than $10,000 of student loan debt. There were 111 students who graduated with more than $31,000 in student loans.

Monica Mendez-Grant, TWU’s vice president for student life, said that financial security while seeking higher education directly supports students by driving degree completion, improving mental health and providing long-term economic mobility.

“TWU recognizes that financial health is tied directly to physical well-being,” she said. “Rather than treating financial aid and student welfare as separate departments, TWU integrates them through the many campus offices.”
