The city of Fulshear will not move forward with a revised performance-based incentive agreement with Home Depot.

The big picture: At a Sept. 15 meeting, Fulshear City Council voted 4-3 to deny a Chapter 380 economic development agreement with Home Depot. Mayor Pro Tem Sarah Johnson and council members Richard Russell and Kimberly Bow cast the dissenting votes, meaning they supported moving forward with the agreement.

The council denied an earlier Chapter 380 agreement at an Aug. 4 meeting due to traffic concerns, Community Impact previously reported. 

What’s changed: Assistant City Manager Kelsee Lee said since Aug. 4, Home Depot has lowered the incentive agreement cap from $2 million to $950,000 and completed a traffic impact statement.

Lee said a traffic impact statement is based on studies by other entities, such as the Texas Department of Transportation, when FM 1093 and FM 1463 were constructed. However, the statement does not take into account traffic counts after construction to establish new base levels.

Happy Chompers Pediatric Dentistry has moved to a new location, business representatives confirmed.

What you need to know: The business has relocated from West Fernhurst Drive to Western Centre Drive to provide more space for its patients, representatives said.

The specifics: The pediatric dentist provides children with a wide variety of treatment options including preventive, emergency, restorative, orthodontic/clear aligners, special needs and sedation dentistry, according to its website.

Houston City College students can soon participate in virtual, employer-sponsored programs to advance career goals, officials announced in a Sept. 1 news release.

In a nutshell: HCC was one of 15 community colleges selected to participate in the Workforce Futures Accelerator Project, a three-year initiative led by the Association of Community College Trustees with support from Google, per the news release.

The initiative will focus on high-demand workforce fields such as technology, healthcare, advanced manufacturing and business operations, per the association’s news release.

Notable quote: “Participation by HCC will strengthen how we provide students with career-connected learning experiences that complement their classroom education and align with the needs of employers,” Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher said in the news release.

Candidates Letitia Plummer and Orlando Sanchez are running to lead Harris County government.

What you need to know: Plummer, a Democrat and Orlando, a Republican, will face off in November’s general election to become Harris County’s next judge. The judge oversees the Harris County Commissioners Court, which governs the county. The court and county judge are responsible for the about five million residents who live in Harris County.

Before you go: Early voting begins Oct. 19 and runs through Oct. 30, according to the Texas Secretary of State's website. Election day is Nov. 3 and polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Registered voters can cast their ballot at any polling location during early voting and election day.
