German Motor Works is set to add an additional bay door after Richardson City Council unanimously approved a zoning request July 31. The auto shop proposed several site improvements that council members said would help enhance the Buckingham Place shopping center.

The overview: German Motor Works has been operating since 1996, offering engine diagnostics, brake repair, transmission service, air-conditioning repair, oil changes and routine maintenance.

Only one indoor service area is accessible from the rear of the property, which city planner Christine Ross said causes operational inefficiencies. Structural alteration of the building is not currently allowed under the repair shop’s zoning, so the business requested clearance from the city to add a second overhead bay door to connect to the service area.

Quote of note: "We are trying to enhance this area as much as possible,” council member Curtis Dorian said.

KC Hair Braiding Studio is set to open soon in Richardson’s Campbell Plaza Shopping Center.

The details: Per its website, KC Hair Braiding Studio offers a variety of braiding services for men, women and kids. The studio is taking over the location formerly occupied by Hair Jones 411 Hair Clinic.

Texas Woman’s University will construct a $30 million brand-new athletics facility, the university announced.

What’s happening: The university received a $10 million donation from an alumna that will go toward the on-campus athletics facility, according to a news release. The venue is expected to break ground in 2027.

Dawn Chaney, who played three sports at TWU in the 1960s, made the donation to the project. The new facility will bear her name. 

The athletics complex will be 30,000-35,000 square feet and will support the university’s growing athletics program as well as the needs of student-athletes, the release states.

“I am excited to support this new athletics complex because it will provide student-athletes with the resources, facilities and opportunities they deserve to excel in competition, in the classroom and in life,” Chaney said.
