Popcorn and sweets shop Craving Kernels coming soon to Spring

Antique-style sweet shop Craving Kernels is opening a second location in Spring off Cypresswood Drive come July, owner Tracey Harmon said.

What's in the name: Owners Randy and Tracey Harmon, who are husband and wife, opened the downtown Tomball Craving Kernels location in 2018, where the team makes the popcorn they sell. Popular popcorn flavors out of their over 80 different options include Extra Buttery, Cheddar and Zebra Drizzle.

General Manager Julie Carranza said they ship their popcorn all over the country, and even have regular costumers that drive in from Dallas. Along with their popcorn and tins, Craving Kernels sells:

  • Homemade fudge and cookies

  • Silly sodas

  • Malt milkshakes

  • Hershey's ice cream

  • Assortments of candies

What's new: Tracey said the new Craving Kernels location will sell the same goodies as the original, but will have more seating options for guests to enjoy their treats. They also plan to have a grand opening celebration once they have an official opening date.

Rotolo's Craft & Crust celebrates 30 years serving Spring, League City

Rotolo's Craft & Crust officials said the pizza company celebrated 30 years serving pizza in June.

The details: Founded in 1996, Rotolo's Craft & Crust has over 30 locations nationwide and operates two locations in the Houston area, located in Spring and League City. Rotolo's Craft & Crust celebrated its anniversary with specials on June 10, per the business Facebook.

On the menu: Made with homemade sauces and in-house dough, per the website, Rotolo's Craft & Crust offers Detroit style pizza, calzones, wings, salads, sandwiches and pastas.

DATA: See the most common languages spoken by bilingual students in the Greater Houston area

Among students learning English in Greater Houston area public school districts, Spanish, Vietnamese and Arabic were the most common home languages spoken in the 2025-26 school year, according to Texas Education Agency data.

The breakdown: Emergent Bilingual students are students “in the process of acquiring English and [who have] another language as the primary language,” as previously reported by Community Impact.

In regions 4 and 6—which comprise most of the public school districts in the Greater Houston area—the most common home language spoken by emergent bilingual students was Spanish, according to TEA data released April 27. However, the number of Spanish-speaking students decreased year over year in both regions.


Zooming in: Meanwhile, behind Spanish, the top home languages spoken by emergent bilingual students in regions 4 and 6 in 2025-26 were:
  • Vietnamese with 8,742 students across both regions
  • Arabic with 5,777 students across both regions
  • Urdu with 4,644 students across both regions
  • Mandarin with 3,974 students across both regions
