Bond projects near completion in Tomball, Magnolia ISDs

A variety of different projects are underway in Tomball and Magnolia ISDs, including the construction of new schools. TISD passed a $494.46 bond package in 2021 and MISD passed a $228M bond package in 2022.

Magnolia ISD: Elementary School No. 10
Project: The new elementary school located in the Kresston development is funded by the May 2026 bond. It will have a capacity for 900 students.
Update: The rendering of the elementary school will be presented at the August 10 board meeting.

  • Location: Kresston development

  • Timeline: Opening August 2028

Tomball ISD: Creekside Park Junior High School Addition
Project: This includes a $39 million, two-story addition to accommodate fifth graders for the 2026-27 school year.
Update: It is progressing as expected.

  • Location: 8711 Creekside Green Drive, The Woodlands

  • Timeline: Ribbon cutting held August 2026

Election News
Candidates set for Tomball ISD November election

Tomball voters will have multiple candidates to consider in the upcoming Nov. 3 election for the Tomball ISD Board of Trustees.

On the Tomball ballot: Candidate filings for Positions 1 and 3 closed on Aug. 17. 

Tomball ISD, Position 1

  • Patrick Beecher (incumbent)

  • Lacey Derrington

Tomball ISD, Position 3

  • John McStravick (incumbent)

  • Joseph Ferguson

What to expect: The election will take place Nov. 3, with early voting running from Oct. 19-30, according to the Harris County website. Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on election day, and from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. for early voting.

Q&A: Meet the candidates for Texas House District 3

Two candidates, Kristen Plaisance and Nicole King, will face off during the Nov. 3 election for the seat representing Texas House District 3 for the next two years.

District 3 covers portions of Montgomery County. The seat is currently held by Rep. Cecil Bell Jr., R-Magnolia, who began serving in the position in 2013.

Gov. Abbott announces over $6.3M in grants for veteran service organizations in Southeast Texas

Gov. Greg Abbott announced over $6.3 million in grants for 27 organizations that serve veterans in the Southeast Texas region as part of the Texas Veterans Commission’s Grants Across Texas Tour initiative according to a news release. The TVC is Texas’ state department of veteran affairs. 

Quote of note: “Texans are forever indebted to our brave veterans who selflessly answered the call to serve in our nation’s military,” Abbott said. “These Fund for Veterans' Assistance grants will provide the men and women who served in our nation’s military access to crucial services to improve their quality of life in Southeast Texas and the Coastal Bend area. Our state will always honor our veterans, their families, and their service to our state and our nation.”
