Pearland ISD trustees approve school health advisory council
Pearland ISD’s board of trustees approved at its Sept. 9 meeting its 2025-26 school health advisory council.
The overview: The SHAC will assist PISD in “ensuring local community values are reflected in the district’s health education instruction,” district agenda documents note. The establishment of the council follows Senate Bill 19’s passage in the 77th Texas Legislature.
Alvin ISD trustees approve additional teaching units amid growing enrollment
Alvin ISD’s board of trustees approved five additional teaching positions for the 2025-26 school year at its Sept. 9 meeting.
What you need to know: District documents note enrollment growth and a rise in students needing specialized services as reasons for adding five positions. The locations of where the new teachers will be placed have not yet been determined, AISD Director of Communication Services Rachel Moore said.
Looking back: As of June, AISD ranked as the eighth fastest-growing district in the Greater Houston area, according to a report from Population and Survey Analysts, or PASA. The district has added more than 3,000 students in the past five years, which is an 11% increase.
Space City Weather celebrates 10 years of serving Houston
Space City Weather, a daily weather news and forecaster, is approaching its 10-year anniversary of providing weather updates to five million annual visitors in the Greater Houston area, according to its website.
Zooming in: Space City Editor and certified meteorologist Eric Berger said he started the site as a hobby in 2015. However, when Hurricane Harvey hit the city, it became much more than that.
Alongside Managing Editor Matt Lanza, Berger has transformed Space City Weather into much more, partnering with Reliant Energy as their sole sponsor in 2017, he said.
What’s next: To commemorate its anniversary, Space City Weather will host a Fall Day celebration at Midtown Park, located at 2811 Travis St., Houston, from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 25, featuring giveaways, 10th anniversary merchandise, costume contests and more, Berger said.
