The Peach Cobbler Factory plans expansion into Webster

A new dessert franchise is coming to Webster, according to a recent filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. 

The gist: Founded in 2013, The Peach Cobbler Factor features sweets such as cobblers, banana puddings, shakes and cookies. 

The menu also features cheesecake in a cup, cinnamon rolls, churros and brownies, as well as specialty cobbler flavors, including caramel apple, blackberry peach and apple walnut. 

What we know: The franchise’s new location in Webster will be located off the Gulf Freeway, with construction set to begin in April and be completed at the end of May, per the filing.

Houston Methodist Clear Lake appoints new CEO

Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital appointed Kyle Stanzel, vice president and chief operating officer at Houston Methodist West Hospital, to become its new CEO on April 6. 

The backstory: Stanzel has over 18 years of experience in health care; joined Houston Methodist West in 2018; and currently oversees day-to-day operations, facility growth and development, according to an April 7 news release from Houston Methodist.

Quote of note: “It is an honor and a privilege to step into this role. I am committed to advancing Houston Methodist’s mission of delivering the highest standards of safety and quality care to our patients,” Stanzel said in the release. “I look forward to joining the Houston Methodist Clear Lake family and continuing to strengthen our impact across Clear Lake and surrounding communities.”

New modern Italian restaurant opens in West University

Osteria di Mercato recently opened in late March on University Boulevard, serving modern Italian dishes that are rooted in tradition, according to the restaurant’s website.

Led by Executive Chef Mauricio Alvarado and General Manager and Sommelier Marco Thompson, the restaurant offers an intimate setting with only 25 seats.

Additionally, Osteria di Mercato will offer fine wines, authentic Italian food and dishes such as foie gras torchon and grilled Ora King salmon, according to the restaurant’s social media.

Three B’s On the Green offers family sports bar, grill with golf course views in Porter

Overlooking the green at public golf course Oakhurst Golf Club, Three B's On The Green was built on the success of the Three B's Grill in Kingwood by lifelong friends Robert Jones and Craig Brown. The grill specializes in American cuisine, offering menu staples including burgers, wings, tacos, salads and steak.

St. Luke's Health awards $1M in grants to Houston area nonprofits

St. Luke’s Health has awarded $1.01 million in philanthropic grants to 19 nonprofits in the Greater Houston area, according to an April 6 news release. The grants are intended to address health disparities and enhance the well-being of underserved populations, according to the news release.

What we know: The grants are a part of the CommonSpirit Health Community Health Improvement Grants program.
According to a news release, the program will:

  • Improve community health

  • Advance health equity

  • Enhance local services through charitable contributions

The impact: Participating nonprofits applied to receive grant funding to cover issues found within St. Luke’s community health needs assessments.
Needs include:

  • Improving access to care

  • Behavioral health

  • Chronic disease

  • Food security

  • Preventative practices

  • Social determinants of health

What they're saying: The local initiative by St. Luke’s is a part of a larger effort by CommonSpirit Health, which has awarded $15 million to 329 organizations nationwide, according to the release.
