Construction on district projects to modernize campuses, enhance spaces for athletic and extracurricular programming, and improve infrastructure is underway in Round Rock ISD this summer.

The details: All projects are funded by the $932 million bond package voters passed in 2024.

CTE Center
Project: RRISD will remodel a 200,000-square-foot former LegalZoom building into a central hub for career and technical education programs.
Update: The district broke ground on the facility remodel over the summer.

• Timeline: summer 2026-summer 2027

• Cost: $51.7 million

Dragon Stadium
Project: The competition stadium will have its turf field replaced, scoreboard and lighting upgraded, and undergo Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant improvements.
Update: The track, turf and scoreboard were replaced this summer.

• Timeline: fall 2025-summer 2028

• Cost: $11.2 million

What else?: The district’s bond team is coordinating with the Round Rock ISD Police Department to manage site circulation, traffic flow and safe navigation at campuses actively under construction, according to the district

St. David’s HealthCare announced it acquired 14 Texas MedClinic Urgent Care centers in August.

This includes two Round Rock locations at:

• 16191 RM 620, Round Rock

• 4851 N. I-35, Round Rock

Latest update: The urgent care centers will be rebranded as St. David’s CareNow Urgent Care clinics, per an Aug. 3 news release.

This brings the number of urgent care facilities under the St. David’s system to 39 in Central Texas alone, according to the company.

In their own words: “Access to convenient, high-quality urgent care is essential for the health and well-being of our growing community,” David Huffstutler, president and CEO of St. David’s HealthCare, said in the release. “Adding these urgent care facilities significantly expands the St. David’s CareNow footprint into new Central Texas communities, including Burnet, Liberty Hill, Jarrell, Lockhart and Dripping Springs, connecting more patients to the trusted care and resources of St. David’s HealthCare.”

Austin Gamblers, the city’s first professional bull-riding team, has now commenced its fifth season in the PBR Camping World Team Series.

The context: The Gamblers were established in 2022 after PBR switched from being an individual sport for 30 years to a regional team format. The Gamblers gave locals another home team to root for and out-of-towners another reason to visit Austin, tourism data shows.

Learn more: The team kicked off its season July 10 in Colorado, and riders are heading back down south in late August for their only local event of the season: Gambler Days. The three-day bull riding event signifies half a decade of competition, growth and economic impact on city tourism.

The local impact: In 2025, Gambler Days generated approximately $4.5 million in direct economic impact to the Greater Austin region, according to Nathan Kopp, Austin Sports Commission executive director. That impact translated to about 5,800 hotel rooms and $218,000 in local tax revenue.
