Gen Korean BBQ to host grand opening with free meals for first 100 guests

Gen Korean BBQ House will have a grand opening event in mid-March with specials for the first people to dine in that day.

The details: Amanda Vogel, the restaurant's owner, said the first 100 people will eat free March 14. The next 50 people will get 50% off and the 20 people who dine in after that will get 20% off.

Gen Korean BBQ House allows guests to cook their own meats, such as beef, pork or chicken, in a built-in tabletop grill, the company’s website states.

Vogel said then Denton restaurant is the only Gen Korean BBQ House in North Texas to have fresh sushi on the menu, as well.

Cocktail bar The Hydeout permanently closes after tenant lock out

Cocktail bar The Hydeout near Fry Street and the University of North Texas closed in mid-February, property manager Allen Feltman said.

The details: The tenants were locked out for nonpayment and the space on Avenue A is currently up for lease, Feltman said.

The Hydeout offered several specialty cocktails, such the Spring Break, a mix of vodka, gin, rum, tequila, triple sec, melon liqueur and blue island punch, according to its menu.

The space also hosted events like a Barbie-themed party and a May the Fourth Star Wars party, according to the company website.

Tom Thumb now open in Harvest Town Center near Argyle

Tom Thumb in the Harvest Town Center near Argyle is now welcoming shoppers to its new store.

The overview: The store will offer bread, cookies, ice cream cakes and fried donuts, Store Director Jennifer Czech said. Customers can also find fresh flowers, meat and seafood, prime beef with organic and grass fed options, beer, wine and tens of thousands of groceries and non-food items, she said.

Tom Thumb also has a pharmacy, a drive-thru window and an in-store Starbucks coffee shop.

Quote of note: “There is not a grocery store within a certain mile radius,” said Sally Aldridge, the chief executive officer of the Metroport Chamber of Commerce. “This is a huge addition for not only Argyle but Northlake and the surrounding communities. It is definitely needed.”

Retail pavilion at Omni PGA Frisco, office development in Southlake: See 5 of the latest permits filed in the DFW area

New retail space in Frisco and mixed-use development in Southlake are some of the many new North Texas projects filed recently with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Here are five of the most expensive permits filed with TDLR in the past week.

1. O’Reilly Auto Parts warehouse shuttle system: An automated storage and retrieval shuttle system is under construction for a new O’Reilly Auto Parts warehouse in north Fort Worth, according to a recent TDLR filing. The shuttle system will include three separate rack structures and a mezzanine with a catwalk. Construction is estimated to take a little under two years.

2. Retail pavilion at Omni PGA Frisco Resort & Spa: A new retail pavilion will be constructed within an existing retail district at the Omni PGA resort and spa in Frisco, according to a recent TDLR filing. The resort had its grand opening in 2023, per previous reporting. The 15,200-square-foot development is estimated to take less than a year to complete.
