Conroe ISD approves new Superintendent David Vinson
The Conroe ISD board of trustees has approved the hiring of David Vinson as the new superintendent in a 7-0 vote at its Sept. 18 special board meeting.
At a glance: Vinson was named as the lone finalist for CISD’s superintendent of schools in a unanimous vote during a special board meeting Aug. 27, as previously reported by Community Impact.
Digging deeper: Vinson has been the superintendent for Wylie ISD since 2011, which has over 19,300 students and 20 campuses. In comparison, CISD serves over 73,000 students across 71 campuses.

The Woodlands Christian Academy expands fine arts program
A Sept. 15 news release announced the Montgomery County Community Foundation awarded a grant to The Woodlands Christian Academy to enhance its fine arts programs while supporting summer enrichment opportunities and professional development for local arts educators.
The impact: Per the release, the grant played a role in The Woodlands Christian Academy’s RISE summer camps which offered music, visual arts and theater experiences for students of all ages. In addition, the grant provided professional-grade supplies, guest artist instruction and expanded programming.
What else: The grant will also fund the Community Arts Teachers Professional Development Program which will focus on equipping teachers and art leaders with training in stage and film audition techniques.
Bear Branch drainage project secures additional funding in The Woodlands
Additional funding for a drainage project at the Bear Branch dam will be provided by municipal utility districts in The Woodlands, The Woodlands Water Agency told township officials Sept. 18.
General Manager Erich Peterson said engineering funding for the design of the project was approved for the additional work needed for the project.
The backstory: The San Jacinto River Authority previously told township officials the full scope of the project includes two phases and will address both the original service needs as well as help prevent the continued deterioration of the spillway system, Community Impact previously reported.
What else: In other business at the Sept. 18 meeting, the board of directors considered creating a task force for e-bike safety, a topic which spurred the township to create educational materials and collaborate with partners to help reduce injuries and crashes from e-bike use.
Salad and Go officials confirmed via email the salad chain is closing all of its Houston locations by the end of the day Sept. 19 and will continue to operate stores in the Dallas area.
