Secret Touch Salon Studios will be opening soon in New Caney, according to Saqib Ali, president of project developer ArchPoint Ventures. The business will be located in the ArchPoint at 1485 retail center, which features 14,000 square feet of retail space.

Some context: The retail center will also be home to other businesses, including Lee Psychiatry, Texan Mattress and State Farm.

Two candidates will face off for the Texas Senate District 4 seat in the November general election.

In case you missed it: Brett Ligon and Ron Angeletti—Republican and Democratic candidates, respectively—will compete in the Nov. 3 election to represent District 4. The district covers portions of Montgomery, Chambers and Jefferson counties, according to the Texas Senate's website.

In May, Ligon and Angeletti vied for the Texas Senate District 4 seat, which was left vacant after former state Sen. Brandon Creighton chose to not run for re-election and gave up the remainder of his term to lead the Texas Tech University System, as previously reported by Community Impact. Ligon won that election and is serving the remainder of Creighton's term, which will end in January.

November's election will decide who will serve District 4 for the next four years.

What else? Candidates were asked to keep responses under 50 words, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents.

Eli Lilly and Company held a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 21 for its new $6.5 billion, 236-acre manufacturing site in Generation Park in Houston.

The big picture: The facility is part of Lilly's $50 billion investment to bolster domestic medicine production. The Houston site will manufacture Foundayo (orforglipron), which is Lilly's first synthetic oral GLP-1 medicine approved by the FDA for weight management in certain adults.

The impact: The project is expected to bring several benefits to the region:

• It will create more than 600 high-wage jobs and an estimated 4,000 construction jobs.

• Lilly is providing $12.5 million to San Jacinto College to support a pathway into advanced chemical synthesis manufacturing careers.

• The company is making a $2.5 million charitable donation to the college for student scholarships.

A new agricultural complex is opening along Hwy. 288 with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The Farm will be located about three miles from Reliant Park.

The overview: The Farm, which stands for Furthering our Agriculture and Ranching Mission, will offer 1 million square feet to support Texas youth, agriculture, education and Western heritage, according to a Sept. 17 news release from Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The complex will complement the Rodeo's longstanding home at Reliant Park, according to the news release.

To cast votes for a U.S. senator, governor, state attorney general and dozens of other races during the Nov. 3 midterm election, Texans must ensure they are registered to vote or have submitted an application by Oct. 5.

How it works: To be eligible to register to vote, an individual must:

• Be a U.S. citizen

• Reside in the county they apply to vote in

• Be at least 18 years old by Election Day

• Not have been declared mentally incapacitated without the right to vote by a court

Getting registered: Eligible Texans must submit a paper voter registration application by Oct. 5. The online form must be printed, signed and mailed to the applicant's local elections office.

One more thing: Voters who are already registered have through Oct. 5 to update their name or address, if needed.

Some voters may appear on the state "suspense" list if local officials cannot confirm their address, although they will still be able to vote in the election.
