Project Mammogram—a nonprofit that provides free breast cancer screenings to uninsured and underinsured patients—is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, said Brooke Baugh, director of development and programs for the Northeast Hospital Authority and Northeast Hospital Foundation, the organizations behind Project Mammogram. The backstory: In 2001, Project Mammogram was founded by the Northeast Hospital Foundation with $5,000 in starting funds from the Kingwood Women’s Club, as previously reported by Community Impact. The organization offers services, including: The impact: Joyce White, a nurse and Kingwood Women's club member, was instrumental in the creation of Project Mammogram, according to the organization's website. Project Mammogram serves residents in 26 ZIP codes in parts of Harris, Montgomery and Liberty counties, as previously reported. Over the last 25 years, Project Mammogram has provided services to more than 13,000 people.
