Comal ISD outlines corrective actions following state intruder-detection audits

Comal ISD officials presented an overview of recent intruder-detection audits and corresponding corrective actions during the board’s regular meeting Nov. 20.

The Texas Education Agency conducted intruder-detection audits statewide between June 2022 and November 2025. Within that time, TEA completed 11 audits across all campuses in the district, according to the presentation.

The update: The most recent set of audits—conducted in October 2025—highlighted three key action items aimed at strengthening campus security; including additional training, creating a comprehensive safety plan and having corrective measures reviewed by the district safety board, according to the presentation.

All campus employees received in-person training to ensure exterior doors remain fully closed, locked and latched at all times. CISD also developed a comprehensive improvement plan focused on tightening safety procedures. The plan prioritizes maintenance and timely completion of work orders for exterior doors, according to the presentation.

Bobby’s Ice opens new live music venue, bar in New Braunfels

After closing earlier this fall, a local live music venue has reopened on the other side of New Braunfels at a new location and under a new name.

What you need to know: Bobby’s Ice opened on Nov. 20 at 6390 FM 1102, according to a Facebook post from the business. 

Bobby's Ice was previously named Billy's Ice and was located at 1193 Loop 337. Billy's Ice closed in October after Owner Bob Wilson sold the location, as previously reported by Community Impact. 

What they offer: Bobby's Ice offers live music, food and drinks.

Guadalupe County judge appoints interim commissioner for Precinct 3

A new interim commissioner has been appointed in Guadalupe County.

The details: At the Dec. 2 Guadalupe County Commissioners Court ​​​​​meeting, Jim Wolverton was appointed interim commissioner for Precinct 3.

According to a county news release, Wolverton will be stepping in for Michael Carpenter, who stepped down to pursue the county judge position.

Wolverton was Precinct 3’s commissioner for over 20 years before retiring in December 2020. He will serve as interim commissioner through 2026, until the results of the next general election for the position.

According to the Guadalupe County Elections Office, a primary election for the position will be held March 3, followed by a November general election. The county judge has the authority to appoint an interim and fill a vacant seat until a general election, per Texas Local Government Code.

Wolverton helped to manage several facility projects in the county during his time on the court, including the Schertz Service Center, according to the news release.

A national chain of frozen custard restaurants has a new location in Cibolo.

Andy’s Frozen Custard opened within Cibolo's Buffalo Heights retail development Dec. 3. The restaurant company has 186 locations throughout 15 states, according to its website, including 39 in Texas. The chain currently has three stores in San Antonio.

The restaurant is known for its concrete and Jackhammer frozen custard blends, as well as sundaes, splits and malts.

A new convenience store with a fully stocked Dunkin’ inside has opened next to VIA’s Stone Oak Park and Ride location along the US 281 frontage road.

Owned by Sachin Bhutani and Muhammad Amin, Market@StoneOak, an upscale convenience store, offers a variety of snacks and drinks, such as Dubai chocolates, craft beer and sodas, as well as everyday items like milk, eggs and bread.
