Universal City OKs permit for auto repair service business

Universal City approved a permit for Valvoline, an auto repair service, during a Nov. 18 City Council meeting.

What happened: The item passed with a 3-2 vote. Council members Lori Putt and Bernard Rubal were the two dissenting votes, and council member Bear Goolsby recused himself.

What we know: Valvoline will be located at 460 Kitty Hawk in Universal City, according to agenda documents.

The business offers an array of vehicle maintenance services, including oil changes, battery replacements, fuel system cleaning, differential fluid and more, according to its website.

Renovation project in the works at Live Oak's Hilton Garden Inn

The Hilton Garden Inn in Live Oak is getting an upgrade.

Two-minute impact: The hotel and conference center at 8101 Pat Booker Road in Live Oak is in the middle of an 8,000-square-foot renovation of the hotel’s ballroom area. The $366,000 renovation project will be completed in early December, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Zooming in: The project is mainly geared toward cosmetic upgrades of the rentable ballroom near the conference center at the hotel, along with a few kitchen upgrades.

The Hilton Garden Inn Live Oak location offers a traditional hotel experience, as well as meeting rooms, a conference center, ballroom, a pool and more, according to the hotel’s website.

Bexar County to build bridge over Cibolo Creek

As part of a joint endeavor with Comal County, Bexar County is improving a low-water crossing on Smithson Valley Road at Cibolo Creek in Northern Bexar County.

The details: Known as the Smithson Valley Road Low Water Crossing Project, the project is designed for a 10-year storm event, and includes road reconstruction and a new bridge over Cibolo Creek near the intersection of Smithson Valley Road and FM 1863, according to Bexar County officials.

According to county officials, the project will provide unflooded access to the intersection during major storms.

Funding for the project is approximately $2.8 million, and Comal County will provide 50% of the construction cost, which was agreed upon in an interlocal agreement approved in February 2024. Construction is estimated to begin in January and be completed in October 2026.

I-10 and Loop 1604 interchange project
Project: Part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange project will consist of eight flyover ramps, roundabouts, a high-occupancy vehicle lane and other interchange improvements, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

Old Fredericksburg Road project
Project: Bexar County is adding a series of improvements to Old Fredericksburg Road in a five-phase project, stretching 1.7 miles from I-10 to FM 3351. The project includes five drainage improvements, a new bridge at a low-water crossing, a roundabout at Lost Creek Gap and the addition of turn lanes at multiple intersections. Other improvements include adding paved shoulders, sidewalk improvements and other multimodal transportation improvements, as well as relocating utilities.
