Richardson City Council selected three finalists for the vacant Place 3 seat at the Sept. 14 meeting.

The overview: Council will conduct final interviews with Daniel Burdette, Jeffrey Davis and Jordan Noret during open session on Sept. 21, after which the council will select a lone finalist.

Some context: Council member Dan Barrios announced his resignation on July 13 in order to focus on his campaign for U.S. Congress.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken is now open in the Circle K at Richardson’s Main Street Shell gas station.

The details: The 100% halal restaurant serves Cajun-spiced fried chicken made in-store, including tenders, nuggets, chicken sandwiches and wings. Krispy Krunchy Chicken also offers honey butter shrimp, biscuits, mashed potatoes and other sides.

Plano ISD's board of trustees approved a slightly lower tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year on Sept. 8.

What you need to know: The new tax rate for fiscal year 2026-27 of $1.03275 per $100 of taxable value is down from the current rate of $1.03955 per $100 of taxable value.

District Chief Financial Officer Courtney Reeves said that the tax rate decline has been "primarily driven by state-mandated tax rate compression." The new rate is equal to the maximum allowed rate without triggering an election.

Despite the lowered tax rate, Plano homeowners will, on average, pay more in taxes next fiscal year due to increased property values, Reeves said.

1. Fit-out for Terminal C renovations at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport

The Dallas Fort Worth airport’s Terminal C will receive interior fitout renovations for baggage claim, a security check point, concessions white boxes, offices, restroom, break rooms, back-of-house renovations, ready rooms and gate hold lounges per a TDLR filing. The renovations are part of a larger project estimated to be finished in 2030, per previous reporting.

2. Cottonbelt Trail construction in Plano

3.16 miles of a hike-and-bike trail are planned from north of the President George Bush Turnpike to Shiloh Road, per a TDLR filing. The trail is part of a larger project to connect Plano to downtown Fort Worth, per previous reporting. Construction for a portion of the trail to connect Addison to Plano started in spring 2025.
