North East ISD adopts lower tax rate for FY 2025-26
During its Sept. 8 meeting, the North East ISD board of trustees voted to adopt its tax rate for the 2025-26 school year.
The gist: In a unanimous decision, the board voted to adopt the total tax rate of $0.9822 per $100 valuation, including a maintenance and operations tax rate of $0.6822 per $100 valuation, which will fund the general operating fund, and an interest and sinking rate of $0.3000 per $100 valuation, which will fund the debt service fund. The rate is composed of a $0.63 compressed rate for the state, plus $0.5 for enrichment.
The background: The adoption of the tax rate concludes NEISD’s budget preparations for the 2025-26 school year, such as the adoption of a $1.037 billion total budget in June.
North San Antonio library going solar as a part of $30M city project
As San Antonio continues to work on reducing emissions in municipal buildings, residents in North San Antonio may see some changes in public spaces.
What you need to know: The Brook Hollow Branch of the San Antonio Public Library is set to install a solar panel array on Sept. 15, city officials announced in a news release.
The renewable energy project will add covered parking to the facility.
According to the release, it could offset energy costs for the building by up to 80%.
The context: This is a part of San Antonio’s Municipal Solar project, a $30 million undertaking that aims to install solar arrays at 42 municipal buildings and reduce energy costs by 70%, as previously reported by Community Impact.
In the next two years, the city expects to have nine more libraries and 36 total buildings set up with solar panel arrays.
School Discovery Network to host town hall on private school vouchers for special education
The School Discovery Network and AIM, a San Antonio-based provider of supportive services and evaluations for special education resources, are hosting a free town hall Sept. 18 for families of students with disabilities to provide educational information about Texas' forthcoming education savings accounts, or ESAs.
The details: According to a news release, the information session will help offer a breakdown of the new law. The event will be held from 6-7 p.m. at the Fusion Academy, 227 N. Loop 1604 E., Ste. 100, San Antonio, and is open to the public. Registration is encouraged.
According to a news release, students with documented disabilities could qualify for up to $30,000 in ESA funding for the 2026-27 school year. Funding can be used for a variety of services.
