Sugar Land officials are looking for ways to soundproof the Imperial Sugar Char House as redevelopment conversations continue.

In a nutshell: At a Sept. 22 workshop, Sugar Land City Council reviewed design alternatives, noise mitigation, pricing and a timeline for the Imperial Sugar Char House Preservation Project.

The details: City officials requested an acoustic sound study to address the loud noise from the nearby train. The study resulted in four options for soundproofed windows, including: 

• Option one: Base option with non-laminated glass, which would result in a $14.72 million contract.

• Option two: Laminating one side of the glass to get a slightly quieter office space, which would result in a $15.37 million contract.

• Option three: Laminating both sides of the glass to get a more modern, quiet office, which would result in a $15.88 million contract. 

• Option four: Installing a second interior window, which would allow the space to serve as a hotel. Staff does not recommend this option due to the cost, which was not listed.

Looking forward: City Council will consider the contract for preservation at its Oct. 20 meeting.

Missouri City's Quail Valley North Park will be closed for a portion of the fall, officials announced in a Sept. 21 Facebook post.

What's happening: The 3-acre park, located at 2202 Bermuda Dunes Drive, closed Sept. 21 as Kinder Morgan Crude and Condensate LLC completes repairs to pipelines that run through the park, officials said.

The details: The neighborhood park is home to a playground, drinking fountain, picnic table and a small parking area, per the city's website.

During the repairs, a portion of sidewalk and parking will be removed, although any disturbed groundwork will be repaired and replaced.

Stay tuned: The park is expected to remain closed through Nov. 30, per the post.

The Fort Bend Teen Service League, a mentoring program of the Fort Bend Junior Service League, is celebrating 20 years of service and leadership development, officials announced in a Sept. 15 news release.

In a nutshell: The organization is open to women in seventh to 12th grade who reside in Fort Bend County and share an interest in volunteering, serving others and developing their leadership skills, per the release.

Teen members are given opportunities to participate in hands-on service, philanthropy, educational programs and cultural experiences.
