An unoccupied building at the corner of Parmer Lane and Whitestone Boulevard in Cedar Park, formerly a pharmacy, is set to be converted into an event center.

The details: The 12,000-square-foot venue, to be known as the RIA Event Center, will make use of a restored and renovated pharmacy building.

In a letter to city staff, Vincent Huebinger of development firm Vincent Gerard and Associates described a “flexible, modern venue” for “private celebrations, corporate functions and community gatherings.”

The renovations will include the addition of a greenhouse-like enclosed rooftop space, allowing attendees to experience the views from the top of the building, architect Ken Smith said.

The event center’s hours of operation are planned from 11 a.m. to midnight, Huebinger said. City Council members approved a special use permit for the event center Aug. 27.

Looking ahead: Paperwork filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation related to the project lists an expected construction completion date in December.

Walmart in Cedar Park is set for remodeling in 2027, company spokesperson Kim Cooper told Community Impact.

The details: The renovations will cost more than $3 million, a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation states. The store will not be closed during the renovation, and construction will happen after hours, Cooper said.

Williamson County commissioners approved the County Clerk’s archive and restoration plan for fiscal year 2026-27 at a Sept. 15 meeting.

About the plan: The archival plan aims to transition the County Clerk's Office from paper-based permanent records to digital formats and protected physical states through scanning, indexing and encapsulation.

For FY 2026-27, the plan will focus on:

• Encapsulating and binding 60 boxes of criminal case records from the 1800s

• Preserving a few remaining books that were identified after consolidating records into a single room

• Assessing Official Public Records binders that were stored under an attic leak at the Justice Center

The budget for this year totals $1.13 million, which will also fund five staff members.

The archival department pays for record preservation using archive fees

The history: The department has been archiving and chronicling documents since 2001, according to county records.

Completed projects
I-35 Capital Express Central: MLK Jr. Boulevard Bridge Segment
Project: The project included reconstruction and widening of the MLK Jr. Boulevard bridge over I-35 in Austin, adding sidewalks, shade structures, a safety barrier, and rebuilt I-35 entrance and exit ramps in both directions.

Update: The bridge is now fully operational, as two lanes reopened in each direction in early August. Crews are finishing shared-use paths and wider sidewalks.

Spicewood Springs Road Regional Mobility Project

Project: The project includes widening the two-lane road in Austin into a four-lane road with left-turn bays, pedestrian and bicycle shared-use paths, and improving the storm drain system.

Update: An August update stated that weather-related delays pushed the project's substantial completion from late 2026 to summer 2027. Starting in September, work will be underway on shared-use pathways on both sides of Spicewood Springs Road.
