McKinney’s Office of Emergency Management has distributed more than 1,700 free emergency preparedness bags to mark National Preparedness Month in September.

In a nutshell: The bags are available to McKinney residents on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last at two city locations:

• John and Judy Gay Library, 6861 Eldorado Parkway

• McKinney Senior Recreation Center, 1400 S. College St.

The details: The bags are distributed annually to educate residents about local hazards and help them prepare their households for emergencies.

Lite-On Technology Corp. officials held a groundbreaking ceremony in August for the company's planned manufacturing facility in McKinney.

The gist: The ceremony marks the "official start" of building out a space at the Core5 Logistics Center, where the company has purchased two existing buildings spanning more than 650,000 square feet.

The new campus will support manufacturing, operational and engineering activities. Construction on part of the campus could be completed by August 2027, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Two candidates are running for Place 2 on the Collin Central Appraisal District Board of Directors in the Nov. 3 election.

The gist: Andrew Cook will compete against Michael G. Smith for the seat.

The background: Cook currently serves in Place 3 on the Board of Directors but chose to run for Place 2 in the upcoming election, he said.
