North East ISD Superintendent Sean Maika to retire in January

During its Dec. 9 meeting, the North East ISD board of trustees voted unanimously to accept Superintendent Sean Maika’s resignation.

Current situation: Maika’s resignation will be effective March 31, with Jan. 12 as his last work day.

Maika said his decision to resign was made so that he could spend more time with his family, and that the NEISD staff is more than capable of continuing the trend of improving the district and ensuring students receive a quality education.

“I've been in leadership now, 24 years, folks, I'm not getting anywhere without great people,” Maika said. “There are a lot of great people in this audience, and they're great people to my right. That's what makes the system work … This wasn't a decision that was taken lightly, but we have always put my career first, [and] it's time for me to put my family first …" Maika said.

Looking ahead: After approving Maika's resignation, the board of trustees voted unanimously to approve Anthony Jarrett, chief instructional officer, as the interim superintendent effective Jan. 13.
