PREVIEW: Data center back on Prosper zoning agenda

The Prosper Planning and Zoning Commission is set to consider an application for Project Tomahawk, a data center proposed for 37.3 acres near the intersection of FM 1385 and Parvin Road.

In a nutshell: After being removed from the commission’s Aug. 18 agenda, consideration of Project Tomahawk has been rescheduled to Sept. 1, according to town documents.

The local impact: The center will be designed to mitigate power demands, water use and noise generated by the center, according to a website published by the developers.

Public input: Since the proposal for Project Tomahawk was first announced, town staff have received 34 comments in opposition and one comment in support, Hoover said.

How it works: The commissioners will review Project Tomahawk and provide their recommendation to council, which will make the final decision to approve or deny the project.

The gist: Costco offers its members groceries, pharmacy products, automotive services and more, according to its website.

Collin College trustees approve steady property tax rate, FY 2026-27 budget

Collin County residents will see the same property tax rate for Collin College in the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The gist: The college’s board of trustees unanimously approved a tax rate of $0.081220 per $100 valuation during an Aug. 25 board meeting. The college has maintained this tax rate since 2022, according to Collin County documents.

Diving deeper: The board also unanimously approved the college’s FY 2026-27 budget at the meeting. The budget outlines just over $455.4 million in revenue, including:

  • $322.8 million in unrestricted funds
  • $93.1 million in restricted funds
  • $39.5 million in interfund transfers

Q&A: Get to know 3 candidates for Texas Railroad Commissioner

Texas voters will choose from Republican Bo French, Libertarian Arthur DiBianca and Democrat Jon Rosenthal in this November's Texas Railroad Commission race.

The details: The winner of the race will be sworn in to replace incumbent Commissioner Jim Wright in January.

French beat Wright in a May Republican primary runoff, advancing to the general election. Rosenthal ran uncontested in the March Democratic primary, while DiBianca was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

Did you know? The three-member railroad commission does not have any jurisdiction over the state's railroads—that authority was transferred to the Texas Department of Transportation and the federal government by 2005, according to the commission's website. Instead, the agency regulates Texas' oil and gas industries.

Looking ahead: Early voting in dozens of local and state races runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
