Birria Box food truck now selling tacos, ramen from multiple locations in Porter

Birria Box food truck is now mobile in the Porter area, a spokesperson for the business confirmed Oct. 17.

What's new?: In early December, Birria Box opened at The Food Zone 1314, but the business’s owners have since decided to leave the food truck park. Birria Box now stops at multiple locations along FM 1314 in Porter, including at Final Gravity BrewPub, which is located at 23435 FM 1314 B-6, Porter.

On the menu: The food truck’s menu features quesabirria tacos, tortas, Tapatio ramen, aguas frescas and freshly-squeezed lemonade.

New Caney ISD to host special education resource event for parents

New Caney ISD parents of special education students are invited to an event Nov. 1 where they can receive training and support.

What you need to know: NCISD's Special Education Department is hosting a parent symposium, which will take place from 8:30 a.m.-noon Nov. 1. The event will feature:

  • Training opportunities for parents
  • Vendors from across the Greater Houston area
  • Opportunities to ask professionals questions and to meet with other parents
  • Free child care during the event

The details: The event will be held at the NCISD Annex, 22500 Eagle Drive, New Caney.

New hire aims to bolster Lone Star College System's alumni association

Carolyn Donovan began serving as the first associate vice chancellor of Alumni Relations and Engagement for Lone Star College System on Oct. 20.

Explaining the role: Per the release, in her new role, Donovan will be charged with the development of the Lone Star College Alumni Association. The initiative aims to:

  • Celebrate the achievements of LSCS graduates
  • Foster professional and personal connections
  • Create opportunities for alumni to give back through mentorship, advocacy and community engagement

The release notes that the college system has a network of more than 150,000 alumni.

Quote of note: "I am honored to join Lone Star College System at such an exciting time," Donovan said. "Building an alumni association offers an incredible opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our graduates, nurture meaningful connections, and strengthen their lifelong relationship with the college system."

As early voting begins Oct. 20, here is everything voters in the New Caney and Porter area need to know ahead of the Nov. 4 election.

What residents should know: Voters must vote in the county where they are registered. In Montgomery County, voters can cast their ballots at any polling location during early voting. However, on Election Day, voters in Montgomery County must vote at their designated voting precincts.

What else? In November, voters across the state will have the opportunity to weigh in on 17 proposed state constitutional amendments. The amendments center around issues such as property tax reduction and funding water supply projects.
