Katy ISD seeks community nominations for North Transportation Center name

Katy ISD officials are seeking community input in the naming process for the 2021 bond-funded North Transportation Center following the approval of a naming advisory committee at the Dec. 8 board meeting.

The gist: Located at 25030 Longenbaugh Road, Katy, the North Transportation Center will become the fourth transportation hub in the district, joining the East, West and South Transportation Centers that serve more than 95,000 students daily, according to a Dec. 8 news release.

Call to action: According to the release, KISD is inviting community members to participate in the naming process online, with required nomination materials including:

  • A completed nomination form
  • Biographical or historical information
  • A description of significant contributions made by the individual or group
  • A statement explaining why the facility should carry the proposed name

Moving forward: The deadline to submit naming nominations is 4 p.m. Jan. 5.

Because the holiday season can put a strain on struggling families, dozens of organizations across Houston are partnering with local nonprofits and food banks to help provide meals.

For those looking to give, here are 15 local spots to drop off food donations for families in need in the Greater Houston area.

Montgomery County Food Bank: The food bank is partnering with local businesses across the county throughout November and December to collect food donations for the holidays. 

  • Through Dec. 31 
  • Sample items accepted: cereals, healthy snacks, canned vegetables, canned fruits, grains, canned meat, peanut butter, canned soup, jelly and jam
  • 1 Food For Life Way, Conroe

EMC Senior Center: The center is asking for donations to provide meals for seniors on Thanksgiving Day and collecting donations to create meal bags for seniors in need.
  • Nov. 12-14, 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Sample items accepted: Hormel Compleats turkey or chicken, canned ham, canned gravy, box stuffing, canned cranberry sauce

FOODIE FRIDAY
Check out these new restaurants and bars opening across the Houston area.

Co-founded by rapper and entrepreneur Bun B, Trill Burgers opened Dec. 10 in Missouri City.

The restaurant serves classic smashed burgers, including the signature OG Burger, the Triple Vegan OG Burger and Lil G, according to a news release.
