Bonfire Yoga Studio offers heated classes to local yogis

Owner Bonnie Palmer opened Bonfire Yoga Studio, a 2,000-square-foot space in Austin, in August 2025 to bring neighbors together. Palmer, who began practicing yoga 13 years ago, wanted closer access to a more challenging yoga practice and a community-centric space.

What they offer: The studio has 18 teachers who offer daily heated classes, except for Thursdays which feature non-heated classes. The studio's offerings include:

  • The Bonfire Flow, a 60-minute traditional vinyasa flow starting at 90 degrees
  • Hot mat pilates, combining classic mat pilates with strength-based sculpting
  • Hot power yoga, hot sculpt and flow, unheated candlelight yin, unheated kundalini and unheated vinyasa flow

Respecting the craft: Palmer received her 200-hour yoga teaching certification at Black Swan Yoga in Austin. As a teacher, she focuses on creating an intentional space using music, lighting and aroma.

In their own words: Since opening 14 months ago, Bonfire Yoga has seen an "immense outpouring of support," Palmer explained.

What's next for Austin's existing third-party audit after failure of Proposition I

Austin voters rejected Proposition I, a proposed mandate for recurring independent assessments of city government operations, by a 10-point margin.

The details: Despite the failure of the Save Austin Now-backed measure, an existing multi-year comprehensive efficiency review authorized by City Council remains in progress. The program is taking place under a $5.23 million contract with Public Works LLC, and the firm has started its preliminary reviews of Austin's government:

  • Year 1: General fund departments providing public-facing services, including public safety, public health, homeless strategy, housing and planning, parks, library, animal services, and arts and culture

  • Year 2: Enterprise and support services departments, including aviation, transportation and public works, watershed protection, convention center, financial services, City Council and city management

  • Year 3: Utility departments, including Austin Energy, Austin Water and Austin Resource Recovery

Initial public reporting from Public Works is anticipated during a January presentation to council members.
