Grapevine Fire Department to forge ahead with reallocation of personnel following vehicle purchase

The purchase of a new squad pumper for the Grapevine Fire Department will lead to reorganization efforts first discussed in February.

During the April 7 Grapevine City Council meeting, council members voted 6-1 in favor of purchasing a $325,000 Fouts Bro. squad pumper from Houston-based Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists Inc.

The vehicle, which will be on the chassis of a Ford F-550 crew cab, will be delivered within 90 days, according to city documents.

Grapevine Fire Department Chief Darrell Brown said once it is put in service, the department will move forward with reallocation of personnel and equipment, previously reported from a Feb. 17 meeting.

The details: The deactivation of Engine 1 and the addition of Squad 1 are part of many changes that will unfold at the Grapevine Fire Department.

In their own words: “[I] truly believe this is the best plan, the best thing we can do for the citizens,” Brown said. “Our commitment to our citizens has not changed. We're still going to show up whenever they call."

New brewery could come to Roanoke following planning and zoning approval

A new brewery could make a home in Roanoke after the city's planning and zoning commission recommended approval of a site plan for the project at the April 6 meeting.

The overview: The brewery is tentatively named Pirate Panda Brewing, though that name is subject to change, Roanoke Economic Development Manager Siale Langi said.

It would be located at 200 S. Oak Street, across the street from Hard 8, Langi said.

More details: The brewery plans come in the midst of Roanoke City Council discussing how best to update the development code for Oak Street, which hasn’t been updated since 2009.

The latest discussion, which was held March 3, rounded up ideas from the planning and zoning commission and City Council. Talks between city officials included opinions on topics like whether Oak Street should have more multifamily housing, Community Impact previously reported.

Looking ahead: Roanoke City Council will consider the brewery’s site plan at the next council meeting held April 14.
