Comal County Commissioners appoint interim justice of the peace for Precinct 3

Comal County commissioners approved the appointment of Mark Long to fill the vacant justice of the peace, Precinct 3 position on Jan. 29, following the resignation of Mike Rust.

In case you missed it: Rust had previously taken a leave of absence, during which Long was appointed to serve. After Rust returned, he submitted a formal letter of resignation, stating his final day in office would be Jan. 31, Comal County Judge Sherman Krause said.

As a result, commissioners were required to appoint someone to serve the remainder of the unexpired term, which runs from Feb. 1 through Dec. 31. Long said he was willing to continue serving in the position, prompting the recommendation for his appointment, Krause said.

In their words: Precinct 3 Commissioner Kevin Webb thanked Long for stepping forward and for Rust's service to Comal County.

"Judge Rust has been a great partner for me in Precinct 3 and he will be missed," Webb said.
