Upcoming project
Bailey Road expansion

Project: This project will widen the current lane configuration to the ultimate width and improve traffic reliability along the corridor.
Update: The project is anticipated to reach substantial completion in March and be complete in April.

Ongoing project
Pearland Parkway and Broadway Street intersection improvements

Project: This project will reconfigure the intersection at Broadway and Pearland Parkway to accommodate increased traffic volumes by adding northbound dual left-turn lanes and additional right-turn lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions.
Update: Work is ongoing on the expansion of the northbound right-turn and left-turn lanes onto FM 518/Broadway.

Completed project
Smith Ranch Road expansion
Project:
The road will be transformed from a two-lane asphalt into a divided four-lane with raised medians, concrete curb and gutter, storm sewer, shared-use path, streetlights, landscaping and irrigation.
Update: The project is substantially complete. Completion of the project is anticipated by the end of March, and all lanes will be opened for traffic then.

Foxtail Boutique relocates from Pearland to Friendswood

Foxtail Boutique, a store selling women's clothing, relocated to Friendswood on March 21 after operating on Main Street in Pearland for over five years, owner Christina Davila said.

The backstory: Davila worked for a Pearland-based oil and gas company for 14 years before a 2020 lay-off opened the door for her to pursue her dream of opening a women's fashion boutique, according to the shop's website. 

Quote of note: "I am a huge believer that fashion has the power to build self confidence and change the way a person looks at themselves," Davila said on the shop's website. 

One more thing: Foxtail Boutique was formerly located at 2111 N Main St., Pearland, according to the brand's social media.

MD Anderson Cancer Center opens Colorectal Center

On March 19, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center announced the opening of its new Colorectal Center located on the second floor of its Duncan Building, per a news release.

More details: The 24,565-square-foot center blends art and technology, aiming to create a calm, healing environment focused on patient experience, per the news release. This center includes 32 exam rooms, along with a lobby featuring three focus rooms. Patients will have access to supportive services such as nutrition counseling, pain management, genetic counseling and risk assessment.

Quote of note: “When we treat young patients, we are addressing more than just the cancer,” Dr. Y. Nancy You, professor of colon and rectal surgery and director of the young-onset colorectal cancer program, said via news release. “We also recognize the significant psychological impact that a diagnosis can have on their lives. This new center provides a dedicated space where we can deliver personalized, whole-person care and walk that journey with every patient, so they know they are not alone."
